Every operating system in the US, including Linux, has been compromised. The guy that wrote the code to compromise Linux signed a 10 year non-disclosure agreement and was outed by someone he knew after the 10 year period was up.
As I understand it, Intel and AMD CPU’s have been compromised also.

My linux got hacked as well as my brand new Mac Pro. The Mac Pro was no surprise, they went over to the dark side (but Photoshop is so darn good!). Every chip is backdoored, especially those from China. Your router is the base and easiest point of attack. From there, they go after everything attached to it from computers to printers.

The chips might have something in them, but how does an open source OS have code in it that makes it “compromised”? You could just download the source code, modify those portions and recompile it to meet your needs… that is what “open source” means you idiot, everyone has access to the source code.

1) Download Puppy Linux Live CD
2) Disconnect your hard disks while online.
3) Use a flashdisk for temp storage if downloading.
4) Never be online with HDD plugged in.. even if Unmounted.

You can’t make your home systems hack-proof. But you can make it difficult for the hackers. The fewer malevolent potential intruders have the skills and tools to intrude, the fewer will do so.
Convert to Linux (I like Ubuntu with Gnome Flashback). I did six years ago. Glad I did.
Get routers capable of running Open WRT and derivatives (I like Tomato). Open source, frequently updated with latest security patches.
Keep your routers secured with WPA2 and AES, and long random passwords.
You can’t make it impossible for the bad guys to get in, but you can limit your exposure to the number of bad guys who can figure out how to.

Yes if you are using the free one provided by your ISP and you might as well send your ISP a front door key but if you buy your own router with outbound rules then its the best bit of kit to have in the house.
Windows virus ware can only be made safe by using something out side of widows to block all the call home traffic and the router/firewall is the answer but you need the Teledo tunnel and Ipv6 turned off in widows bloatware to make it real safe.
Microsoft now does so much spying that it needs to lock administrators out from sections of the file system and uses GUID’s in the registry that goes to 14 levels deep to hide just what the virusware is doing.
Me thinks I’m going to just use this thing as a paper weight from now on……..
