Sheriffs are not necessarily the good guys. Any department that is/was involved in the drug war and participating in federal/state theft of private property are too far gone to be useful to ordinary citizens. These people are nothing more than criminals in uniform.
I’ve got a good-ole-boy sheriff nearby that believes harassing people on the ground with aircraft is perfectly ok. He also has cops in black pajamas roaming around farms in the wee small hours of the night (SE US). Such sheriffs and such cops are a waste of human DNA.

When a Sheriff arms his citizens, it’s a constitutionally armed and well regulated (hopefully) Militia. When a Sheriff takes free tanks, guns, night vision etc. from the Feds, and then trains his men with the Feds so they can go around dressed in black, wearing masks, kicking down doors with no warrant, killing family pets and family members, or just terrorizing people at the wrong address, those are your domestic terrorists.
