How Can We Make Before It's News Better: What We Have Done

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Hello All,

Before It’s News editors and administrators would like to thank you for your replies to: How Can We Make Before It’s News Better.  /blogging-citizen-journalism/2015/06/how-can-we-make-before-its-news-better-2511718.html

We have begun making changes in response to some of your suggestions.

1.       First we have slowed the pace of changes in the top 50 stories so it refreshes every 3 minutes instead of every minute.

2.       We have also begun featuring only complete stories in Editor’s Picks to eliminate the need to leave our website in order to finish reading a story.

3.       Headlines in all caps are now changed to conform to the AP style guide.  Writers who submit stories in all caps will receive a note from the editors that normal sentence style is preferred.

4.       The system for voting on stories and authors has changed so that only one vote per I.P. address is permitted to prevent people from assuming multiple identities to vote on stories or authors.

5.       The ability to respond to comments has been expanded from three replies to a particular comment to 12 replies.

6.       We are working to insure that iPhone and iPad users do not experience a constant reloading of the page.

7.  We have also asked that writers no longer turn off the abillity for others to comment on their stories.

We would appreciate any further comments you may have about how Before It’s News can be improved. Other changes will be noted as they are made.  You may leave your comments on how we can further improve Before It’s News here in the comments area as well as in the comments area on the original request: /blogging-citizen-journalism/2015/06/how-can-we-make-before-its-news-better-2511718.html

A lot of people , like me , have dynamic IP address .

        Excellent job, Mike & BIN!
It is nice that the abusive, bullying, so-called judeo-christian Fundies of different flavors cannot vote down Comments any more!
A Special Thanks for doing away with the show button!
        Excellent!

        • Chet

          ROFL Chrizmoron…Lord of the Derp.

Like it wasn’t your handiwork specifically that brought this strawberry to the table.
What are you going to do for fun now?

I hope you haven’t resorted to running 10 different devices on your desk all running proxies to accomplish the same task this is claiming to cure.

          • Choronzon….Lord of Dispersion

You don’t need 10 computers, you techno idiot!
Take your pathetic face OUT of that all male wrote book of never ending babble, and learn something that is REAL and can be used!
Actually, CHET, one can close & reopen TOR pretty fast.
            Have you tried it yet?

Just the clean ID’s then, which would be a problem for you, eh, jCHETed (are you WALTER and BEEF SUPREME, also? I notice you love that cap key, idiot)!

            • Dude

Yea, Demon dude, you are right.
But, removing the ‘show’ button took all the fun out of voting judeo-christo-CREEPS down!
Their written Dribble is still showing!
Especially on their long, meaningless banters.
Some so long that it hurt to scroll down through it!
Heck, it was worth a down vote just to close the damn long, rambling, cut & paste thing that would pass as a Comment!

I love the part where the christo-demented ones would write ‘It (down-voted, and not showing comments) makes the comment more enticing, and readers are more apt to open the comment and read it’! after which, they would summon all of their fellow judeo-christo-minions to up vote (and show, if possible) the dumbed down christo-comment again!
              HAHAHAHAHA!
god,    those christo-CREEPS of BIN would just twist in the wind and waste so much time on the trivial, that they were impeded in getting their insane rants out onto other posts!
And, it (the down voting) would make them come to that post like a fly does to sticky fly paper!

              I LOVE BIN!
              And, it’s always changing site-scape!

          for any article , in pseudo code : if accountName (hasnt voted ) && (IPadress hasnt voted over the last 10 min) { Vote()}

        • Donovan

Excellent job, Mike & BIN! You still write like a teenage girl cristocreep, anti american, fool. You white people don’t want the Holy Bible so just leave it alone! It was originally an Oriental script, so the Holy Bible belongs to the Oriental. This explains why Chinese are becoming the Christian Nation and far advancing above stupid white Americans like you!

          • Dude

BIN, why has this christo-TERRORIST named DONOVAN been BANNED??
He is a christo-SPAMMER who harasses good, loyal BIN comment writers, like me!
BAN DONOVAN FROM BIN for TOS violations!

            P.S.
            Hey, DONOVAN1
The christo-CREEPS in China ARE BEING LOCKED UP LIKE CRAZY, write now!
What Asian in their SANE mind would worship the IMAGE of a white-skinned mangod??
            IDIOT!
            LUNATIC!

            • Donovan

Jesus isn’t white fool! He is Judah an Oriental Shemite a Mongolian type people. You don’t know shyte from shinola you deceived christo creep. I am not a “Christian” so don’t try your psyop crap on me. You think by posing and being a poser you can go around building bad karma and not be affected. Well IGotNewsForYou what comes around goes around sphincter loving crybaby. wah wah wah.

This process has worked well, so, thumbs up to the folks at BIN.

      Hello BIN,
There is one thing at this point I noticed right off that wasn’t listed… An “EDIT FUNCTION “for the comments section”…
I proof read anything I submit here, if it is a original comment by me or a reply to a comment of someone else and I still at times MISS a wrong spelling, or a sentence that made sense while I was typing, but in the READING, seems disjointed and not as coherent as I wanted… That too sometimes slips past my proof reading… I think it is the “CAN”T SEE THE FOREST FOR THE TREES SYNDROM” So, If it is possible, could you put ON YOUR LIST to add an Edit option to the comments module, because as it is now, once submitted, it can’t be corrected…
      Thank You,
      Kate47

      • Anonymous

Bin, this is a PS: for you,
The comment I made above, I reread what I wrote 4 times and thought OK, I got it this time!! So I submitted it, low and behold after submitting I read it again and YEP there was a mistake I missed,, ( a original comment ) “AN” is always used in front of a vowel in the next word, NOT “A”… But once again after submitting, I could not “edit” it out… :(

      • Mike

That is a good point Kate47, I have this on my to do list. However we will have to rewrite the code on the website, so this could take a while to complete.

Thank you for taking the time to share this request with me.

        • white cat

To avoid abuses , the edit option should be allowed within the first 15min

          • Scanner Darko

white cat is right. 15 minutes sounds like a solid maximum. I generally catch my mistakes immediately after I post.

        • Anonymous

          Mike you are very welcome…:)

My main gripe is the childish squabbling between abject idiots who are clearly unable to see outside of their tiny space beneath the rock under which they hide. I wouldn’t mind it so much if they learned such basics as grammar, spelling and punctuation, along with politeness, the ability to reason and a modicum of self control.

The option to edit an accidentally mis-written comment is a good idea, although it won’t make any difference to the fools who will never be aware of their own limitations.

    • SumTingWong

I would like the ability to hide stories from certain contributors. Especially the ones that believe posting a link to a youtube video is reporting and the those who advertise their own agenda. Please implement this!!!

      • Dude

        Excellent suggestion, SumTingWong!
A way to separate the weeds from the chafe, so to speak!
It would save readers a lot of time!
        What about it BIN?

        • Mike

I think that is a good idea White Cat.

          So Noted.

    • Ambrose

I think it would be a good idea to create a separate page for religious-related articles so that there’s a clear separation of real news and statements of people’s religious beliefs. As it stands, you have to wade through “My son’s friend had a prophecy last night” articles to actual newsworthy stuff, which is a drag. My suggestion would allow the people who like religious articles to get to them immediately and those who don’t like them to avoid them easily, so it would be a win-win situation.

      • Post America American

There does seem to be a lot of proselytizing on BIN and I like your suggestion to separate the religious posts.

      • Post America American

Change number 2 is disappointing. I think there needs to be a balance between featuring stories that are only a small blurb and stories that are complete. I don’t own a site and I don’t do this for a living, but a lot of bloggers rely on traffic to their sites to keep their meager revenues up and to be able to dedicate more time to writing, making videos and hosting podcasts/radio shows. If someone spends an hour or maybe many, many hours producing original content, why shouldn’t they be able to garner traffic in from BIN to their site where people will finish the story?

I have had something similar happen to me at Infowars. They posted one of my original articles I wrote for someone else’s site. They posted the entire article and left a link to my site. But I barely got any traffic back to the original article, despite the fact that it was one of the top stories of the day. Again, I don’t make any money writing, but others rely on it.

        • Barlow

I agree. Why write stories that are only to be seen on BIN. Of course, many here do, for reasons unknown. Responses were edited to the way they wanted to read them.

        • Mike

Actually people are more likely to explore your site if they are not forced there by a partial post.

I invite bloggers to add 3 links to their site, one by creating a hyper link on the authors name, one hyper link some where in their post in the text, and one at the end of the article as the source.

Following these suggestions, we have had excellent results driving REAL traffic to our contributors sites.

      • Post America American

I think there needs to be a way to slow down the “Most Recent” stories sidebar or something. So many stories are posted and most of them are gone before they even had a real shot at getting into the Top 50. Perhaps you can lengthen that sidebar so that more stories appear there?

        • Mike

If you click on “Editors Picks” it will tak you to the “Classic Home” page.

There are 30 to 35 top stories of the day there.

Let me know if that works for you.

          Thanks
          Mike

    • DigitalVendetta

So completely ignoring the fact of all the BS stories being posted here along with the fear mongers who keep stating bad stuff is going to happen only for the date to come and go and nothing happens? Good job you ignored one of the top problems.

I’m sure now more than ever that the “editors” not only condone, but support the bs some of these people are posting. So much for turning the website around and making it better and maybe gaining a smidgen of credibility….

    • FC

      Thanks for the update.

If there were something to change -
I would add some categories -
There is no category to post nuclear disasters.

I post some things about Fukushima.
I am following the waste disposal emergency (none for USA) since WIPP went out of order.
San Onofre is ready to blow.
Hanford is causing high infant mortality.

There should be a category for
nuke news, Fukushima, CHernobyl, US NNPs etc. so they can be found.

Some things I post in ‘police state’ that really should be in a category called Eerosion of US Constitution”. Perhaps that could have a sister category for outside the US stories.

And I wish, wish, wish there were a category for world banksters, G-7 etc.
That is in the news a lot.

Last, I do post pre-view snips of news articles with a link so BIN won’t get into copyright trouble.
It is OK if they don’t go into ‘Editor Picks’.

      • Mike

Thank you for your suggestions, I like the idea of a category for Nuke News, I know what you mean about Fukushima nes.

I will add these suggestions to my list.

      • NWO for Dummies.

There is a category for “world banksters, G7 etc’…its called “banksters.” Its near the top of the categories list.

    • Cassie

I truly hate to sound stupid, but so be it. I am having a tough time loading a pic and working the box that pops up. I am very interested in doing stories on this site, but I need more directions.

      Thank you,
      Cassie

      • Mike

I sent you a email Cassie.

We have instructions just for this. I’ll be happy to get them over to you.

If anyone else is having trouble with pictures and videos in your posts, please email me at [email protected]

    • NWO for Dummies.

I like another commenters suggestion for a category on “Revisionist History.”

We know all history is false because it is written by the oppressors and war victors and follows the one world order agenda. So how about a “Revisionist History” section so we can move out of darkness into light.

      • NWO for Dummies.

Also another category on “War Crimes of the 21st century would be helpful.”

        • Mike

Thank you for your suggestions, I will add them to my list of categories, all requests will be considered.

    • King of Shambhala

      Great article Mike.
Since the last article by Chris (the same title as this one) the Obots have flaked out.
They’re in full flight-mode scuttling for the rocks they crawled out from under.
Since then Obama’s lost on ObamaTrade and blacks are taking a hit too with Dolezal.
Obama’s ashamed to be who he is aka the Antichrist.
They know we’re coming after them for the Obama birth certificate NOW.
      They’re hiding under the table.
      What cowards!
      They’re NOLIFES! Losers!

      • The Real Deal

Oh yeah Mike, one more thing. What can you do about this guy, KoS? For example, he’s already attacked the commenters on here… And that was just his INITIAL comment, not a reply. Look, if I get kicked, i get kicked, but this is straight up abusive.

        • Big dog.../small fish...

I agree. Shambhala is not only always spewing the same garbage day in day out, threatening commenters with eternal damnation if they don’t agree with him (what utter crap), but also insulting all races, religions and sexes.

The nut wants to get his message across?? Well then make him stop belittinghis target audience with are CHRISTIANS.

    • NWO for Dummies.

also many stories are buried because of sheer ads posing as stories and fringe posts along that line such as these from just the current recent news

      Applabs Technologies director increases stake
St George Mining appoints non-executive director
Potash West moves ahead with German potash project
Red Mountain Mining receives funding to fast-track DFS and permitting

which are of no interest to anybody here, receive almost nil views but still act to bury important stories which editors picks do not otherwise pick up.

these sorts of posters should be banned and i wonder how they were admitted in the first place. It leaves BIN open to the accusation that this is a deliberate mechanism to suppress free speech and the right to hear what is being said..

      • Mike

These are rss feeds from financial firms, we are the last frontier of free press, they have as much right to post as everyone else.

I understand your skepticism. These post do not usually make it into editors picks unless our dynamic front page picks them up from users viewing the content, if our users show interest in these financial posts, then an editor will usually catch this interest and feature them in editors picks.

        Thank you
        Mike

    • Mayhem

I’m not sure the idea for commentators being able to edit their comments has been thought through. If it’s implemented i predict torrents of abuse will be unleashed only to be edited before the filters kick in. Thing is the target will most likely get to see the abuse and the effects won’t be mitigated by self censure.
