HEADS UP: Military Planes Flying Overhead Every 8 Minutes - Tons of Them!

On Thursday at 12:30 pm, my wife called me at work with this strange news.  She said she is hearing and seeing constant planes flying over the house.  We live about 6-8 miles from the Evansville airport in Indiana.  It is a small airport with not a lot of airplane traffic.  We are used to seeing planes maybe once an hour, but this is different.  She said jumbo jets with Air Force markings have be flying low and loud over the house every 8 minutes.  She said is was about 12 planes in a row, a short breather and now they are at it again.  They are like clock work and it is non-stop.  After take off from the Evansville airport, they turned to the north-east.  Since my wife is a stay at home mom, she knows what is normal and what is not normal as far as planes flying over the house.  She was very concerned about it.  From the description my wife gave, it sound like they are flying in tandem, stopping for quick re-fuels and getting right back up in the air. 

My brother was in the Navy and now is a volunteer for the Coast Guard.  He said that looks like a KC-Supertanker which is used for refueling planes in mid-air.

So the question is, why are these military planes using a public airport?  What are they doing?  

Does anyone have any info about this?  Thoughts?
