Yet another diverted flight – Azimuthal equidistant “flat earth” projection
Flat earthers never bring up flights going to the southern hemisphere that have to divert in emergencies, and this is why. On Feb 6, 2017 Qantas Flight 10 diverted to Singapore because of mechanical problems. On the azimuthal equidistant flat earth map, it would be ludicrous for a flight from Dubai to Melbourne to divert to Singapore. It would have flown closer to a vast number of preferable locations in India, Bangladesh, Thailand, or China, especially Hong Kong.
Yet another diverted flight – Orthographic projection
Flat earthers never bring up flights going to the southern hemisphere that have to divert in emergencies, and this is why. On Feb 6, 2017 Qantas Flight 10 diverted to Singapore because of mechanical problems. Note how the orthographic projection of the globe properly depicts the route of Qantas Flight 10 from Dubai to Melbourne and its diversion point compared to the azimuthal equidistant projection above.
Yet another diverted flight – Gnomonic projection
Flat earthers never bring up flights going to the southern hemisphere that have to divert in emergencies, and this is why. On Feb 6, 2017 Qantas Flight 10 diverted to Singapore because of mechanical problems. A straight line on the gnomonic projection shows the shortest great circle path between any two points. Compare this to the ridiculous detour Qantas Flight 10 from Dubai to Melbourne would have taken to land in Singapore on the azimuthal equidistant flat earth map above.
More diverted flights – Orthographic projection
Flat earthers think an azimuthal equidistant map explains why certain flights divert to seemingly out of he way locations. What they don’t realize or dishonestly ignore is that northern hemisphere flights that approach the pole of course appear similar because that is the location where distances and bearings on the azimuthal equidistant map are most similar to the globe and other polar based projections. Note how similar the orthographic projection’s flight paths are to those on the flat earth-preferred azimuthal equidistant map.

What they don’t realize or dishonestly ignore is that northern hemisphere flights that approach the pole of course appear similar because that is the location where distances and bearings on the azimuthal equidistant map are most similar to the globe and other polar based projections. The azimuthal equidistant projection further from the poles shows that the shortest path is no longer a straight line on their map.

The gnomonic projection however shows the true shortest path. Flights never fly the absolute shortest path because they are frequently routed around weather, restricted airspaces, conflict zones, etc.
The “flight diverted from LA to Anchorage makes zero sense” flat earth claim debunked.
Flat earthers love to point out how flights (plural) don’t go where they think they should go, as in this case where a woman on a flight from Taipei to Los Angeles gave birth. They claim it was diverted “way farther out of the expected path” to Anchorage rather than going a shorter distance to LA just to hide the flat earth. It’s a beaten dead horse, and also the ONLY example they ever cite. They simply don’t comprehend the shortest route as plotted via a great circle. The woman went in to labor at about the six hour mark of the 14 hour Taipei to Los Angeles flight (if non-stop), so I estimated the location roughly 2/5ths of the way across. MAP PROJECTION IS GNOMONIC, FLAT EARTHERS. ALL STRAIGHT LINES ARE GREAT CIRCLE PATHS ON THE GLOBE, I.E. THE SHORTEST ROUTES. That does NOT mean the bearing and distance is correct everywhere. You use a different projection for that. The background chart is the georeferenced FAA Pacific Route Planning Chart. Note how straight all those lines are in this projection, flat earthers!
Distant mountain ranges beyond the Great Salt Lake hidden by curvature, not visibility – Nikon P900 photo
Photo taken from the I-80 viewing area just west of Saltair of distant features over the Great Salt Lake with Google Earth imagery matched as closely as possible. Annotations with distances and elevations. Show me the curvature? There you go. Why can’t I see those entire mountain ranges back there, flat earthers? I could see the peaks of the Raft River Mountains 100 miles away so why couldn’t I see all those mountains behind Carrington Island even though they are a lot closer than that and higher than Carrington Island?
Sunrise 18 March 2017 from the 7200 West exit looking east (obviously). Sun is slightly south of due east because it’s a couple days early and the sun must rise above the mountains a couple of degrees before becoming visible. Rough azimuths are included. Google Earth shot for comparison. This scene is impossible for flat earthers to explain on their typical map without all kinds of special pleading and desperate claims of optical illusions and “apparent suns”.
Visibility of the stars Polaris and Sadalmelik from Earth
Angles to Polaris and Sadalmelik as seen from Earth. Note how Polaris can only be seen from the northern hemisphere while Sadalmelik can be seen from the entire planet. This is not explainable with stars rotating above the flat earth disc world without special pleading or inexplicable cones of visibility.
Visibility of the southern constellation Crux as plotted (roughly) on a Two-Point Equidistant map centered on Sydney and Santiago.
Demonstrating a southern hemisphere Two-Point Equidistant projection where distances outwards from both Auckland and Santiago are correct, but nowhere else.
Flat earthers claim Sigma Octantis doesn’t exist, or isn’t visible, or demand proof that it exists. Photograph a reduced-size version of an original taken by Jimmy Abbott at https://onelifeonewhistler.wordpress.com/
All solely southern hemisphere nonstop flight paths demonstrating that such paths not only exist in abundance despite some claims to the contrary by flat earthers, but that they also must curve on the “Gleason” azimuthal equidistant projection in order to match reality. No nonstop flight from Australia to South America goes remotely near or across North America.

Argh !!! Logic and empirical proof !!! Here on B4 it’s news…. By jove ! Are you insane bringing sanity here ?
I’ll grant you it’s rare, Nanar, but it has been known to happen.
it’s refreshing really is.
