The other day as I was sitting down to write my latest story, The Good, The Bad, and The Horny I became distracted by the falling snow outside. I live in the Canadian prairies where winters can be very brutal. We tend to get plenty of snow and very cold temperatures. So far this year the weather had been very warm. We’ve had snow, enough that everyone was outside shovelling, street cleaners were out clearing the roads and the ground was covered in layers of white fluffy snow. It didn’t stay long before most of it melted. Everyone is elated. I don’t mind the warm weather, but I do miss the snow. To me, it’s not the holidays without snow. It bums me out and I don’t feel the slightest bit in the holiday spirit. I did however, put my tree up last week, though I wasn’t in the mood. The day after the tree went up, it began to snow. Happens every year. My kids joke with me that I’m in control of the weather. If only. LOL

Anyway, back to writing. As I was sitting jotting out my story I glanced outside to see it was snowing. Yeah!!!! Only problem is, I became distracted by the snow and not writing. I watched as the large flakes fell, dusting the ground in sparkling white. It was beautiful and it reminded me of when I was young. The first snowfall was the best. I couldn’t wait to get out there and play in it. Dressed in my heavy winter jacket, ski pants, toque scarf and gloves I scrambled out the door with m y sister. We had o much fun, laying in the snow, making snow angels, grabbing hands full of snow and throwing them at each other an titling our faces up and letting the flakes lad on out tongues. There was nothing else in our world at that time but the joy of playing the snow.

I miss those days of carefree living, not having to worry about anything, just enjoying the joy of Mother Nature at her best. As I sat watching the snow fall I had an incredible urge to run outside and play in the snow. Me, a forty-five year old woman, thrashing about in the snow, making snow angels and letting the falling snow touch my tongue. Surely my neighbours would think I’d lost my mind. How sad is that. Why is it seeing an adult enjoying the snow means they’ve lost their minds? Can’t we as adults have fun as well? Don’t you ever wish you could just throw away your age and just have fun? I know I do and the next time I see it snowing, I intend to head outside and do just that. I’ll coax my hubby and kids out to join me and have a good old fashion snowball fight. I encourage you al to do the same—that is if you have snow where you live. Throwing mud or clumps of dirt just isn’t the same.

You probably are wondering if I ever got back to writing. The answer is no. I gave up on trying to get back into the rhythm and decided just to curl up on the sofa and watch some TV, and watch the snow fall outside my window.
