Teenage Heart Transplant
Well, it’s that time again…
EXACTLY ONE MONTH TILL CAMP!
For those of you who don’t know what camp is; Camp Del Corazon is my home away from home! It’s a very special annual summer camp I have been attending for eight years for heart patients only. This summer camp means the whole entire universe to me! Out of everything wonderful in my life, camp is what I look forward to the most! Camp takes place on Catalina Island for five days with the friendliest, most spirit uplifting people I know! Everyday consists of the best activities like kayaking, rock climbing, or archery and not to mention the food is so srumpdiddlyumptious! I owe my life to camp because without it, I probably would have ended up as a depressed teenager thinking I’m alone in this world when dealing with heart issues.
Last year, I posted almost everyday as my, “Countdown till camp” when it was a month or so away. If I had a bad day(you’re taking one down), remembering I’m one more day closer to camp would always settle me into a much happier mood. It doesn’t feel like camp last year was that long ago, but hey the sooner camp comes around the sooner I’ll be doing the Sunshine Dance in the morning, squirreling for my lost items, and eating smores by the camp fire.
Speaking of camping, I just returned home from my annual “father daughter camping trip” yesterday. Surprisingly, the weather was superb (except for the thunderstorms at night… I hate it when the sky goes BOOM) and unlike my “unfortunate” friends, I was only slightly sunburned on my shoulders. Overall, I loved water rafting, finding a tire swing during Adventure Time, eating steak every night, and just being with my derpy friends. And now, between my small corky friend group we now have a gazillion more inside jokes to randomly spurt out into irrelevant conversations. Even though camping was totally “hotsy totsy”, I missed my phone (even if I had service, being connected to the modern world would totally ruin the nature atmosphere) and especially my shower! Nature is great, but I’m too much of a city girl to be away from civilization for long.
I won’t be able to enjoy being home for long since I’m leaving for California tomorrow! I’ll be visiting my grandparents for a couple days and then spending my friends birthday at Disneyland! Not to mention I have a blood draw early tomorrow morning, I’m also getting all my school books, and I’m in desperate need of a mani pedi pronto! I guess that’s where my girly girl-ness comes into order.
In other news, I had a regular cardiology appointment this morning and everything looks great! Yay for happy hearts!
31 MORE DAYS!

Relaxing so hard right now! |
My name is Shelby Cooper and I have had two heart transplants. Living with heart disease has encouraged me to spread Congenital Heart Disease Awareness, and to tell kids with heart defects; you’re not alone.
