My Book Retreat

Good morning. I hope you’re all doing well. I’ve been sick since before the new year began, and I’m sick of being sick! Unfortunately, being sick means I haven’t felt like doing anything ~ even reading! I’ve read a total of 118 pages this year. That’s it. I haven’t even finished one book ~ and the book I started with is only about 150 pages!!! I’m so frustrated but know that once I feel better, I’ll get back into reading.

Recent Reviews and Other Posts
I did put up a couple posts this past week:
Stages of Reading ~ a post for those of you with young kids
Interview with author Michelle Day

The recap linky is still open for the Non-Fiction Non-Memoir Reading Challenge in 2012. If you participated in the challenge, be sure to link up so you can be entered to win an Amazon gift card!

What I’m Reading
I’m still reading Watering Heaven by Peter Tieryas Liu. It’s a very interesting and well-written set of short stories. I just can’t seem to find time to read it!

I did sign up for the Winter’s Respite Read-a-Thon at Seasons of Reading. It takes place January 21-27, and I’m hoping it will give me a chance to get caught up with my reading!

What C is Reading
C finished The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan and is now reading The Son of Neptune. I also picked up a few Greek mythology books from the library for him. His favorite has definitely been the National Geographic Treasury of Greek Mythology: Classic Stories of Gods, Goddesses, Heroes & Monsters by Donna Jo Napoli. This book is filled with colorful illustrations and lots of great details about each of the characters of Greek mythology.

What M is Reading
M and I are continuing to read more of the Rainbow Magic books. Right now, we’re reading through the Ocean Fairies series. In addition, we read two picture books about artists: Pablo the Artist by Satoshi Kitamura and Drawing Lessons from a Bear by David McPhail. These are both very cute stories about characters (an elephant in one and a bear in the other) who want to become artists. The book by David McPhail was chosen as part of the Virtual Book Club for Kids so we’ll be doing an activity related to it later this week.

Up Next for Me
Once I finish Watering Heaven, I’ll be starting Crossing the Rubicon by R.C. Richter.

What are you reading this week? It’s Monday! is hosted by Sheila at Book Journey, so hop over there if you’d like to see what others are reading too. Want to see more children’s book reviews? Check out the Children’s Bookshelf.
