Haunted Lambeth

James Clark is a freelance writer based in deepest, darkest south London, UK. He’s rarely happier than when delving into the city’s nooks and crannies in search of weird stories and has written several collections of these tales, including Haunted London (2007), which looked at those central areas of London familiar to tourists, Haunted Wandsworth (2006), covering the London Borough of Wandsworth, and Strange Mitcham (2nd edition 2011), focusing on his home town. He also maintains the Mysterious Mitcham website. 

In the pipeline is a book about the poltergeist that took over the Hitchings family’s home in Battersea in the 1950s. This is being co-written with Shirley Hitchings, who was at the centre of those remarkable events. 

A really useful tool in this book is having it split into geographical areas, making it easier to find specific locations if you are looking for them. With each haunting researched and detailed, it soon becomes apparent why Lambeth has quickly become part of the haunted capital of the World. Pictures and illustrations add to the general appeal of the book and transform what could be a normal list of locations into an interesting, eye-pleasing and tantalising read. 

At only 95 pages, perhaps it could be a little longer, but for the price, this is definitely a worthy edition to the Haunted series.
