Miracle at Sycamore Grove by Bobbie Shafer is the third and final chapter of the Secrets of Eagle Creek, and the legacy of Aimee McKay. Written in Ms. Shafer’s usual and unique style that keeps the reader clinging to each word and turning pages as fast as possible, this book is a thriller you won’t want to put down.

The first book, Love’s Golden Dream began the series with Aimee McKay escaping her abusive boyfriend who had duped her into leaving her family with the promise of marriage, and out of her mother’s jewels. Upon a voyage on two different ships, Aimee meets and befriends an older gentleman she is able to confide in, but when the second ship is capsized by a hurricane, the gentleman thrusts his money belt and carpetbag full of gold to Aimee, knowing he would not survive. As the story goes on, Aimee disguises herself as Mack Kaymey and lives her life as a man, secluded away in the mansion she builds with the gold. She also leaves a diary of her life, along with a legacy and the remaining gold, so that after she is gone, a deserving family will be chosen by the Eagle Creek Legacy board, and the house and fortune will be passed on for hundreds of years into the future.

Book two, The Legacy of Eagle Creek begins about fifty years later with widower Clay Wilkens, his three children, and elderly in-laws moving into the house. Although the diary Aimee left behind, along with the remaining gold has never been found, a series of events leads oldest daughter, Sarah to a secret discovery; her father to a new love; and the entire family on a hunt to follow Aimee’s clues to find the gold.

Miracle of Sycamore Grove picks up in the 1950’s with the last of the Wilkens’ children moving on with their lives after growing up, building careers, marriages, their own children, and finally, Clay Jr.’s retirement to Puerto Rico and the hand of fate guiding him and his wife, Barbara to the perfect family to inherit the estate.

When Virginia Cash finds that her husband, Wylie is MIA in the Korean War, and she is left to raise their two children alone, she also loses Wylie’s income and benefits. Because Wylie is MIA, the government freezes his wages, and because he isn’t declared deceased, they won’t pay out his insurance either, leaving Ginny to eke out a living as a diner waitress.

Because her boss is also her landlord, and feels sorry for the young mother, he sets a jar on the counter for people to add a little bit of change to for her and then empties it out each week and gives the money to her. But one fortuitous week, when the jar is emptied, in addition to the eleven dollars, there is also a large manila envelope inside.

When Ginny goes home after her shift, she drops the envelope on the couch, changes out of her uniform, then goes across the hall to her best friend, Edna’s apartment to get her children and pay Edna the five dollars she charges for babysitting each week. Later, after taking her children back home, she remembers the envelope and decides to see what’s hidden inside. Three business size envelopes dump out, each numbered in succession. The first has a letter, the second has train tickets to Sycamore Grove for her and her children, and the third contains one thousand dollars in cash. Ginny nearly passes out!

From there, the Cash family, along with Edna’s, lives change completely when they arrive in Sycamore Grove and see the beautiful estate they inherited. But they also arrive in the middle of a mystery when a young girl just vanishes with no leads. But when Ginny finds out this isn’t the first girl to disappear from Sycamore Grove over the past thirty years, she can’t help but wonder if she’s inherited a wonderful life or if she’s just put her children’s lives in danger.

You won’t want to miss this final offering in the Eagle Creek series from Bobbie Shafer. You will hang on every word and be on the edge of your seat until the mystery unfolds and the climax is reached!
