10 Fun Book Series for Tween Boys

My 10 year old son is an avid reader who tends to gravitate toward popular series for his age group. I thought it would be fun to share his top 10 favorite series (in no particular order). These reflect his interest in fantasy, adventure, humor and middle school antics, which I expect many tween boys (and some girls too) share. With the exception of The Heroes of Olympus, all of these books have main characters who are tween boys (at least at the beginning of the series).

Harry Potter by J. K. Rowling

• About a young wizard named Harry who goes to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry
• Main character’s age throughout series: 11 – 17

Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan

• About a boy named Percy who finds out he’s a demigod son of Poseidon and has many adventures that involve Greek mythical creatures and gods

Heroes of Olympus by Rick Riordan

• A sequel to the Percy Jackson series that features Percy and several new characters

Septimus Heap by Angie Sage

• About a boy named Septimus Heap who is the seventh son of a seventh son so he has magical powers
• Main character’s age throughout the series: 10 – 14

The Underland Chronicles by Suzanne Collins

• About a boy named Gregor and his adventures in a land under New York City called Underland
• Main character’s age throughout series: 11 – 12
• Books in series: 5

How to Train Your Dragon by Cressida Cowell

• About a boy named Hiccup who is part of a Viking tribe that trains dragons as their pets

Origami Yoda by Tom Angleberger

• About a boy named Dwight who creates an origami Yoda that gives advice to his classmates

The Genius Files by Dan Gutman

• About boy-girl twins named Coke and Pepsi who get caught up in a secret government project while on a cross-country trip with their parents.

• About a boy named Griffin and his friends who work together to make sure justice is served
