Chase Checking Account $100 New Account Bonus

There aren’t as many new bank account bonuses these days as credit card incentives. If you are looking for some free money for opening a new bank account, here’s an offer from Chase for its Checking Account.

From now to January 31, 2011, you get $100 cash bonus if you open a Chase Checking Account and

1. Make an initial deposit of at least $100;
2. Set up direct deposit and make at least one $500 direct deposit.

To qualify for the cash bonus, the direct deposit must be made in one transaction with $500 or more. If you, say, make two $250 direct deposits, then you won’t get the bonus even though the total amount meets the requirement. It has to be one $500 deposit. Following is the fine print regarding the bonus offer:

Offer not available to existing Chase checking customers. Offer valid through 1/31/11. To qualify for the bonus you must open a new Chase CheckingSM Account with a $100 minimum deposit of new money (money not currently held by Chase or its affiliates). Also, within 60 calendar days of account opening, we must receive from your employer or the government a monthly electronic direct deposit of your payroll, pension or government benefits, such as Social Security. The bonus will be deposited into your new account within 10 business days after your initial direct deposit is posted to your account. Bonus is not considered part of minimum opening deposit. Limit one checking account-related reward/premium per customer, per calendar year. Offer not available on account conversions or in combination with any other offer. Employees of JPMorgan Chase Bank, N.A. and our affiliates are not eligible. Checking account must remain open for a minimum of six months or the bonus will be debited from the account at closing. Account is subject to approval. Bonus is considered interest and will be reported on IRS form 1099-INT.

Even though it mentioned that only deposits made directly from payroll, pension, or government benefits are considered as qualifying direct deposits, people on FatWallet forum said that they have used ACH transfer from other bank (ACH push to send money to Chase account) before and still got the bonus.
