Discover More Card No Fee 0% APR Balance Transfer for 12 Months

Last week, I wrote about Discover More Card $100 bonus for every new cardholder after spending $500 within the first three months. Even though the card also allows new members to transfer balances to the new Discover More Card at 0% APR for 12 months, the 5% fee is a big hurdle for people to make such a transfer because the rate of the fee is much, much higher than the savings account interest rate currently available at any bank. Therefore, for anyone who wants to get the money and put it in a savings account, the transfer doesn’t really make too much sense.

Now, Discover has sweetened the offer by eliminating the balance transfer fee. For a limited time, if you get a new Discover More Card and make a balance transfer, you don’t have to pay the usual 5% balance transfer fee for the amount of balance you transfer to the new Discover card. Without the balance transfer fee, you can actually make a little money by getting the money at 0% APR and putting it into a savings account. For example, if you transfer $10,000 from the Discover More Card to a savings account that pays 1.30% APY (such as Sallie Mae Savings Account), you can make $130 after the offer expires in one year (the 0% APR introductory rate is good for 12 months). The free money is nowhere near what you could have gotten a few years ago when the interest rates were in the 5% APY range and no fee balance transfer cards were everywhere.

The More Card has no annual fee and you can earn as much as 5% cashback with the card. For more details of the card’s benefits, check out my previous post.

In addition, Discover is also offering a $75 Restaurant.com gift certificate for its Open Road Card after the first purchase. Note that, unlike the More Card, there’s no spending limit for receiving the gift certificate. Main features of the Open Road Card are as the following:
