Crowdsourcing Marketplace DesignCrowd Hits $10M in Projects

Crowdsourcing startup DesignCrowd.com has hit $10 million in crowdsourced design projects through its site and, in the last six months, more than doubled its business.

The news follows a period of rapid expansion for the startup, which recently hit 100,000 designers, and since raising $3M from Starfish Ventures in November 2011 has expanded internationally, launching in seven countries including the United Kingdom, Canada, and more recently India, Singapore and the Philippines.

The service, which specializes in crowdsourcing graphic design ideas for businesses from its huge community of talented designers, has seen growth in various geographies, services and segments.

DesignCrowd’s recent growth has been driven by:

Global demand for its service – DesignCrowd has seen a 120% increase in requests for crowdsourced design projects in the last 6 months including growth in the UK (133% growth), India (100% growth), the US (97% growth), Canada (90% growth) and Singapore (75% growth).
Demand for logo, web and graphic design crowdsourcing – DesignCrowd has seen strong growth in its core services in the last 6 months including 113% growth in logo design, 89% growth in web design, 116% growth in graphic design, 317% growth in business card design and 121% growth in t-shirt design.
Demand for Facebook, App and other design crowdsourcing – DesignCrowd has seen strong demand for new services including Facebook design, App design, PowerPoint design and book cover design.

Other drivers of DesignCrowd’s rapid growth have included:

Increased demand for crowdsourcing from big brands including projects from Microsoft, HTC, Amnesty International, and ABSOLUT.
Strong growth in its designer base – registrations with 50,000 designers joining DesignCrowd in the last 12 months. There are now 130,000 designers in 160 countries and over 2 million designs uploaded on the site.

Alec Lynch, Founder and CEO of DesignCrowd, said: “Reaching $10M worth of projects on DesignCrowd is fantastic and our recent growth is extremely exciting. In our first year, DesignCrowd was run out of the garage and we made $20,000 of sales. We now do that in a few hours, and soon we’ll be doing more than $1M of projects a month.”
