Is This Hover Board for Real? - YouTube Video from 'Team HUVr' Goes Viral
Back to the Future fans take notice — the HUVr team has finally mastered the technology that has eluded us for years: the hover board.
Or have they? An elaborate YouTube video certainly makes it seem so. Celebrities, including Back to the Future star Christopher Lloyd, musician and technology hater Moby and NFL wide receiver Terrell Owens, endorse the wheel-less skateboard that enables them to travel a few feet off the ground.
The videos from team HUVr are going viral on YouTube as people watch Owens hike several feet in the air on the board while Moby floats easily back and forth.
“This board has more technology within it than the satellites we sent to space in 2010,” says a member of the supposed HUVr team.
Yes, supposed. Because even though the HUVr website is also very elaborate and real looking, right down to its geek-chic team of inventors, there are some telltale signs that — Great Scott! it’s all a prank or a publicity stunt.
If it is indeed a prank, there is no seeming purpose. A publicity stunt seems more likely given the polish of the YouTube videos and the website. And if it is indeed a bid to stir up interest, the most likely reason is a new Back to the Future movie.
After all, Lloyd (who played Dr. Emmett Brown) did drive on to the “set” if you will, in the DeLorean, the iconic car from the original Back to the Future movies he starred in with Michael J. Fox.
If we can’t have a real hover board, then at least a new movie will whet our appetites until the technology actually exists.
