Facebook Testing Snapchat-Like Stories in Messenger

Facebook is currently testing Snaphchat-inspired tools in Messenger with its Polish users.

Dubbed Messenger Day (also known as My Day), the tool enables Facebook Messenger users to share photos and videos with friends that then self-destruct 24 hours later. Each image or video, which can be enhanced with text, scribbles and stickers, can be displayed for 10 seconds.

“We know that people come to Messenger to share everyday moments with friends and family,” a Messenger spokesperson told Mashable. “In Poland we are running a small test of new ways for people to share those updates visually. We have nothing more to announce at this time.”

This is not the first time Facebook has taken its inspiration from Snapchat. The social media firm last year launched Snapchat-like filters and stickers to its photo editing tools, enabling its users to get creative with their image uploads.

And, in 2014, Facebook launched Slingshot, its own self-destructing messaging platform for iOS and Android. The photo and video-sharing app did not really catch on, however.

The social network has often taken its inspiration from the trendy messaging app and, in late 2013, offered CEO Evan Spiegel a $3-billion, all-cash buyout — a clear sign that Facebook saw a whole lot of value in what Snapchat had to offer.

Spiegel spurned Facebook’s advances, however, and the company, since then, has come up with different ways to challenge Snapchat.
