Soft drinks declined with all major categories suffering losses as a result of the wet, unsettled weather conditions particularly in June which depressed consumer demand. PL products outperformed the market during the quarter while total soft drinks declined. Iced/RTD coffee drinks also made strong gains in modern retail, driven by increased distribution. Dairy drinks diminished due to decrease in white milk sales but it was partially compensated by increase in sales of other dairy drinks as alternatives.

Key Findings
- Alcoholic drinks declined mainly driven by reduced consumption of beer, with demand also depressed by the wet and unsettled weather

- Only in the energy drinks category were PL lines able to buck the negative trend, due to promotional support by retailers

- Sales of hot beverages remained flat during the quarter, with gains in hot tea largely off-set by limited losses of hot coffee
