Nest Launching in Germany, Austria, Italy, Spain

Nest is coming to four more European countries in the Alphabet-owned home automation firm’s continued push to take its technology global.

As of Feb. 15, Nest products in the appropriate language will be available for purchase both in-store and online in Germany, Austria, Italy and Spain. Until now, Nest was only available for purchase in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Ireland, France, Belgium and the Netherlands, although, according to Nest, that did not stop “millions of people” from more than 190 countries from going elsewhere to buy the products they wanted.

“There’s clearly organic interest in the benefits our products offer, and with our expansion into Germany, Austria, Italy and Spain, we’re doubling our footprint in Europe and allowing our customers — including thousands of existing customers — to enjoy Nest products in their local languages,” said Nest general manager for Europe Lionel Paillet. “Now that we’re in four more countries, twice as many European homes have the chance to become Nest homes. We also plan to make our products available through even more energy, insurance and telco partners, as well as enlist the help of thousands of Nest Pro installers. So getting and installing Nest products, and connecting them to Works with Nest products, will be simple.”

Nest, which was purchased by Alphabet-owned Google in 2014 for $3.2 billion, focuses on reinventing unloved but important devices in the home such as thermostats, smoke detectors and security cameras. The Silicon Valley company, co-founded by former Apple employee Tony Fadell, was launched in 2011.

Its most popular product, its Smart thermostat, learns from the homeowner’s behavior and then creates a schedule to both meet the home’s heating and cooling needs and save energy.

Nest said it will continue to expand to more countries as demand grows.
