Chrome for Android Update Makes it Easier to Read Webpages Offline

Google is making it easier to download webpages to read offline with its latest Chrome for Android update.

The update builds on the feature the tech titan released back in December that enabled the easy download of music, videos and full webpages for offline viewing.

“More than 45 million webpages are downloaded every week — and today we’re adding improvements to make it even easier to download pages,” product manager Tal Oppenheimer said in a blog post.  “Now you’ll always have a ready-to-go list of pages or articles to read even if you are out of data for the month or lose the network in a dead zone.”

Now, thanks to this week’s update, you can long press on any link and select ‘Download link.’ The feature can also be used to long press an article suggestion on the new tab page.

“The next time you run into Chrome’s offline dinosaur, you’ll see the ‘Download Page Later’ button,” Oppenheimer added. “If you tap it, Chrome will automatically download the page for you when you get back online.”

The update also makes it easier for you to find your downloaded content. Once you open a new tab, the articles that you have downloaded will appear, tagged with an offline badge and a list of your recent downloads will be surfaced right on the page for easy access.

Once you have updated to the latest version of Chrome, simply tap the download icon on any page to start using the new feature.
