Katie Couric Leaving Yahoo
Veteran TV news personality Katie Couric is calling it a day with Yahoo.
Couric, who signed on as the Internet company’s global anchor back in 2013, is leaving the firm following the $4.48-billion takeover of Yahoo’s core Internet division by Verizon.
Couric, who was the face of Yahoo News after being brought on board as part of former CEO Marissa Mayer’s turnaround plan, will remain on board “on a project basis” with Oath, Verizon’s new parent company for AOL and Yahoo.
“Over the last four years, Katie has created a vast portfolio of work that has been equal parts inspiring, thought-provoking and fun to watch,” Oath said in a statement to The Drum. “We’re proud of everything she has accomplished and look forward to exploring ways to work together in the future.”
Verizon, after completing its purchase of Yahoo’s core business in June, said it would rebrand both Yahoo and AOL to fall under Oath, which is being run by AOL CEO Tim Armstrong.
Oath will oversee more than 50 media brands including AOL.com, Yahoo Sports, Tumblr, Yahoo Finance, Yahoo Mail, HuffPost and Flickr.
Mayer is no longer in the picture after choosing to make an exit with a $23-million severance payment and roughly $236 million is stocks.
