Top Outlook Express Problems That Lets Users Move Toward Different E-mail Clients

With advancement in communication networks, Microsoft offers a number of e-mail clients for the business arena to let organizations stay connected. These e-mailing applications not only help in establishing a smooth communication channel between business management, employees, clients and others, but also work as a platform to organize business data, securely and effectively.

Outlook Express e-mail client was the first most utilized e-mailing application provided for the Windows Operating System, but it has now become outdated. This is due to advanced e-mail apps offered by Microsoft to fulfill the ever-rising demands of business organizations.

MS Outlook and Lotus Notes, undoubtedly, the best applications ever, replace the outmoded e-mailing program Outlook Express. These advanced applications offer full-fledged features for sending and receiving e-mails messages, storing contacts in organized manner, saving and tracking appointments and other calendar events efficiently and much more.

If you have used the application for sharing e-mails across business and personal contacts, you must be familiar with Outlook Express problems and issues that contribute to its failure.

Problem 1: Unable to Send and Receive E-mails

The most complicated situation is when the application fails to serve the actual function that it is made for. This is when you feel exasperated as all your business tasks are delayed due to unresponsive behavior of the application. One of the most common reasons behind its inappropriate functionality is the stipulated storage limitation.

Yes, Outlook Express uses DBX as data repository that offers just 2 GB storage space for saving all e-mails. When the file reaches 1.8 GB volume, it is considered as ‘full’ and any attempt to save more data makes it inaccessible. The biggest problem here is that either the DBX files or the Outlook Express application do not notify the user on reaching the stipulated storage volume and turns corrupt.

Problem 2: Cannot Open Outlook Express

At times, when the application sometimes takes more time to upload than usual, it displays the ‘cannot open…’ error. There is no particular reason behind this behavior, but do not to assume that it has crashed; Rather, wait for the application to get started.

Logging in the ‘Safe mode’ may help start Outlook Express; however, it may take about 10 to 15 minutes. If you fail to start the application even in the safe mode, then the probability is that some corrupt folders exist in the Outlook Express profile. You will need to fix this issue to gain access to your e-mails.

Problem 3: Missing E-mail Messages in DBX

Each folder in the Outlook Express application makes one DBX file. Therefore, corruption in DBX files is quite common and any sort of mishandling can make it inaccessible. The files could turn unreadable due to inappropriate close down or sudden power failure. It can also turn inaccessible due to improper shut down of the application.

In severe cases, you will notice that all the e-mails stored in a particular folder are lost. If this is the case, it is suggested not to run the Compact command as this will make the entire folder inaccessible and you will lose a remarkable number of e-mail messages. No built-in utility can help gain access to lost e-mails in case of higher-level corruption.

Alternatively, to prevent this situation, you can use a professional DBX to PST Converter utility to make data accessible in MS Outlook and other e-mail clients as the tool converts DBX e-mails to PST, EML, and MSG file formats.

Problem 4: “Relaying not allowed” Error

This is among the few most common reasons that compel users to move e-mails to MS Outlook from Outlook Express. The error message ‘505 relaying not allowed…’ appears when Outlook Express fails to send and receive e-mail messages to and from another domain. However, you can send and receive e-mails in the same domain.

This could be a technical issue and you need to change settings in order to rectify this issue.  The mail Server may need SMTP authentication to enable users to send e-mails to another domain, hence, try enabling ‘outgoing e-mail requires authentication’ option.

Problem 5: Application Incompatibility

If you are using Outlook Express, you will need to download antivirus and other programs only after ensuring that they are compatible with the e-mail client. Else, the application will show error(s) or delayed functionality. In the majority of cases, the anti-virus application interferes with the functional parameters of the OE client and makes it slower.

To prevent this situation or any similar issue that can be a risk to the integrity of DBX files, it can be helpful to move from Outlook Express to Outlook.

Those who are moving from Outlook Express to Outlook need to convert the DBX to PST file format. With this, not only the data can be accessed in MS Outlook, but you can also avail advanced features offered by the most utilized e-mail application.

These are some of the common problems you may encounter while working with Outlook Express; however, there could be other issues not listed here. Whatever the reason is, the only efficient way to prevent DBX e-mails and its integral attributes against data loss and other risks is by migrating e-mails to the PST file format.

Stellar DBX to PST Converter is a third-party tool that efficiently converts e-mails to PST from DBX files. You can opt for its SOHO version if you need to convert DBX data to PST; and, for business users, the Tech version of the tool is recommended as it converts DBX data to Office 365, HTML, EML, MSG, PDF, and RTF file formats.
