Organizing Your Company, Inside and Out

Few things can be as disruptive to a company as disorganization. Disorganization costs your business money and customers, and it can be as damaging in areas that are internal to your business as it is in customer-facing areas. Make sure that you identify and manage your company’s organizational needs inside and out!

Customer-facing organization

It goes without saying that when it comes to the customer-facing parts of your business, you always want to look your best. That includes organization, which will guide your customer to their desired product or service (and then on to the cash register). In fact, organization matters before your customers even walk into your store (or click on your website).

Organization on the customer-facing end includes making it easy for customers to shop. In a brick-and-mortar retail establishment, this means clear and effective organization on the shelves. In all businesses, it means helpful and ever-present employees and great customer service. In service, you may need to manage appointments and reminders – consider investing in proprietary software to ensure that this goes smoothly. And in e-commerce, organization means clear menus and a great search feature that make it easy for customers to find items, add them to their cart, and check out.

Customer-facing organization also includes organizing your brand. A unified look requires great logo design and effective branding, as well as a style guide (and designers, developers, and other employees who will actually adhere to it). Looking organized with a unified brand can draw in customers!

Internal organization

Internal organization is important, too. Inefficiency costs you money, and frustrating disorganization can hurt employee morale. Inefficient internal organization can also manifest as customer-facing disorganization!

So make sure you’re organized. That means an organized company hierarchy, in which everyone knows who they report to and who (and what) they’re responsible for. It means clear communications – consider outsourcing your telecoms management needs. And it means and organized office, including everything from filing systems (can your company use digital records?) to office supply cabinets. Managing your physical and digital records and assets is essential if you’re going to stay lean, efficient, and cost-conscious.

Manage these needs well, and you’ll end up with business that is financially sound and appealing to customers.
