The evolution of MorganLinton.com

Well, it’s July of 2022 and I’m writing my first blog post of the year. Last year I almost shut down and deleted my blog, and I still might bid farewell to all my old posts, but for now, I’m keeping them here.

I started this blog back in October of 2007 and for over a decade I was writing posts on an (almost) daily cadence. My life evolved a lot over that time period. When I started writing this blog I was working for Sonos, a fledgling digital music company that launched before the iPod was cool.

During my time at Sonos I became fascinated with  domain names and domain investing, and that inspired me to start this blog. Domains changed my life, both socially and financially. I was very active in the domain industry for over a decade and made a lot of incredible life-long friends. In the process I also gained some financial freedom I had only dreamed of and today I still buy, sell, and occasionally broker a domain or two.

But my life changed a lot in 2014 when I co-founded Bold Metrics, a AI-first startup focused on unlocking the power of body data. As Bold Metrics grew, I had less time for domains, and less time for blogging. In 2021 I realized I was too busy with Bold Metrics to keep writing this blog at the pace that I was. So I stopped, and honestly, gaining back that 30-45 minutes a day made a huge difference.

Initially I thought I’d just take the blog down, but after taking a poll and talking to some good friends I decided to keep MorganLinton.com up. And so, my blog was frozen in time for seven months…until today.

I started this blog to document a hobby of mine, domain investing, which turned into something much bigger. What I learned through the experience is that I loved writing and sharing what I was learning.

Today, I am busier than ever, we recently raised an $8M Series A Round at Bold Metrics, the team is growing, and it’s one of the most intense and exciting times of my life. Honestly, it all feels like a dream and I’m so incredibly proud of the team that we’re building.

So while I can’t blog every day, or even every week given how limited my bandwidth is, I decided I did want to start blogging again on MorganLinton.com, but to shift the focus to something I’ve been passionate about for years and am making a more serious hobby/area of study today – Astrophysics and Astrophotography.

For those who don’t know, my background is in Computer Engineering and Computer Science and throughout most of my adult life I’ve found myself fascinated by both Physics and space. I’ve very casually studied Astrophysics on and off for the last few years and more recently have started my journey into astrophotography.

Just like I started this blog back in 2007 documenting my adventures in domain investing, I thought I’d do the same documenting my adventures in astrophysics and astrophotography. I might write ten posts this year, or only two, I don’t know, but what I did learn over time in writing this blog is that I do really enjoy writing so I should do what I can to keep that practice alive, albeit a bit limited in frequency.

Of course I expect my audience to change quite a bit. It’s safe to say that domain investing and astrophysics have absolutely nothing in common…but that’s okay. This is MorganLinton.com, it’s a blog by me so it’s time to shift to what I’m learning about at this point in my life.
