Last Monday on my TV show I raised the alarm about the anti-Christian bigots on Nanaimo City Council. Since then, 5,137 people have signed our petition demanding that city council repeal its anti-Christian motion to ban “divisive” Christian groups from renting space in public buildings like the convention centre.
We delivered those petitions on Thursday afternoon. But on Thursday night, the city council dug in their heels. They will not repeal the law – even though it is clearly unconstitutional.
In other words, our real fight is just beginning.
But 5,137 Canadians didn’t just sign a petition. We raised over $5,000 to help fund a civil rights lawsuit to repeal this anti-Christian ban. Our friend John Carpay, with the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms, has agreed to research our legal case, and to find potential plaintiffs – people who had their rights violated. We’re going to fight back.
We’ve also produced radio ads that will soon begin airing in Nanaimo, quoting the most outrageous council members.
We’ve got to keep the momentum going. Not just to repeal this law in Nanaimo, but to send a message to politicians across Canada that bigotry and intolerance against any group is unacceptable.
