Alexander McQueen Dead Of Suicide Days Before Spring 2010 London Fashion Week Show

New York, NY – Alexander McQueen was found Dead of an apparent suicide today.  The popular fashion designer was apparently deeply troubled by a friends suicide in 2007 as well as his Mother’s passing on February 2, 2010.

Alexander McQueens suicide comes days before the Spring 2010 London Fashion Show.

McQueen was known for his lavish, unconventional runway shows.  By the end of 2007, Alexander McQueen had boutiques in New York, London, Los Angeles, Milan, and Las Vegas.  Some of Alexander McQueen’s accomplishments included being one of the youngest designers to achieve the title “British Designer of the Year”, which he earned  four times in the late 1990′s thru 2003.

He once made custom suits for Prince Charles and Mikhail Gorbachev. 

He has regularly dressed Sarah Jessica Parker, Gwen Stefani, Kate Moss, Modonna, Janet Jackson, and Nicloe Kidman among others.

News of Mr. McQueen’s death came as New York fashion week kicked off, sending shock waves through the industry. “Everyone in this tent is shocked,” said Cindi Leive, editor in chief of Glamour magazine. “He was obviously incredibly talented and had a creative energy. There was a real sense of energy in everything he did.”

Hal Rubenstein, a fashion director for InStyle magazine, said Mr. McQueen started out tough and angry—in his work and attitude—but softened over time as he felt more appreciated by the industry. Mr. McQueen, he added, was a master of integration of technology into fashion. “He changed the way so many of us see shows,” Mr. Rubenstein said.
