Never seen before images of Anna Nicole Smith have been released today to mark the fifth anniversary of her death.

The model and actress died in Florida on 8 February 2007 at the age of 39 after what the coroner described as an accidental drug overdose.

The mother-of-two can be seen enjoying herself and living her life without the constraints that her fame placed upon her.

Anna Nicole, real name Vickie Lynn Hogan, has a series of personal photographs that show the former glamour model just being herself.

The old pictures have been released to mark five years after her tragic death.

The real Anna Nicole can be seen messing around on the beach jokingly pulling magazine style poses while still wearing curlers in her hair.

Anna Nicole’s story began in Texas where she was born and married her teenage sweetheart, Daniel Wayne Smith, at age 17.

She gave birth to their son in 1986, but a year later the couple separated. She embarked on a modelling career in 1991, and a few months later she was selected by Playboy boss Hugh Hefner to appear on the cover of the March issue. In 1993 she was named Playmate of the Year.

She met 89-year-old J. Howard Marshall in 1991, just as her modelling career was taking off, in Houston strip club Gigi’s.

He is said to have lavished her with gifts and asked her to marry him several times. In 1994, at the age of 26, she said yes and they eventually wed, but Marshall died just 13 months later.

A lengthy and complicated inheritance case followed as Smith and her husband’s son, E. Pierce Marshall, battled over her claim for half of her late husband’s US$1.6 billion estate.

Her death followed five months after that of her beloved son Daniel and she was buried next to him in the Bahamas wearing a beaded gown and tiara.
