Communist Thugs Break Into to Home of Nephew of Blind Activist, But Nephew Charged with Crime
Chen Guangcheng, the blind activist that made international headlines for his stand against the Chinese regime earlier this year, now has a new worry on his plate.
Guangcheng escaped China through a student visa to New York University after being harrassed by communist officials for defending Chinese citizens in a variety of human rights cases, such as against the one-child policy-spurred forced abortions.
Yet since Guancheng arrived in the US to much publicity, including being given an award by actor Christian Bale, his family members still in China have been persecuted by communist officials, or thugs as they are commonly referred to.
Chen Guangfu, Guangcheng’s nephew, tried fighting off approximately 20 men who burst into his home in April. These men began beating Guangfu’s family. He grabbed a knife from the kitchen and slashed three, causing the others to flee. One would believe that Guangfu’s actions fall under self-defense, according to his lawyer.
But not so in the eyes of communist officials, who ordered Guangfu held and put on trial. The trial was similar to many others in China. “We couldn’t see the evidence [that] the court was using,” said the family-appointed lawyer Ding Xikui, according to NTD Television. “On the basis of the evidence that we have, we arrived at the conclusion that his actions were legitimate self-defense, and according to law he should not have and criminal responsibility.”
Guangfu filed a lawsuit against the local police and communist officials for breaking into his home and beating his family members, but that case was rejected.
Now Guanfu is sentenced to three years in prison.
“This verdict is absolutely unjust,” his father said. “His actions were completely reasonable self-defense.”
