China Buys Costa Rica For $1.5 Billion

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

During an official visit by Chinese President Xi Jinping, the two countries signed nine cooperation agreements totaling $1.5 billion that will provide resources for improving Costa Rican roads and public transit fleets, purchasing solar panels and the building of a new police school.

Costa Rica is now a hub of Chinese power.  Something the United States is certainly keeping an eye on.   Do not forget that this includes a $900 Million line of credit for an oil refinery on the Caribbean coast. Showing once again that the Costa Rica government is not really wanting to go “green” and be carbon neutral.  It also shows once again they do not care about the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica.

Wonder how long before we start seeing Chinese troops stationed worldwide like America does.  Costa Rica would prove a vital base of operations for the Chinese because of its proximity to both the Panama Canal and the United States.  Although there is of course no plans as of yet to do so, yet….  -Mort

I was in Costa Rica for a month last year, staying in a little town in the mountains. Most things are, shall we say, ‘rustic’, but this last time I noticed that the police had lots of nice, shiny new patrol cars. The cars were of a make/model I didn’t recognize, so one day I got into a conversation with a local constable and asked him the story of the new cars.

Seems the police cars were a gift of the Chinese government – thousands of them. I asked him how the cars were working. He just laughed at me. Told me there were many parking lots full of them awaiting repairs. Seems the cars are fine as long as they run, but that isn’t very long and then it’s impossible to get parts. So most of the cars just sit.

However that may be, it is clear that the Chinese are trying to win Costa Rica.

WOW I knew it was coming. As a results of all this borrowing money from China, USA, and the Bank$ters Criminals in Europe, Austerity is in full force in Costa Rica. Here is a related video on this subject.

The Chinese have owned the Panama Canal and well the country as well for years. And remember the Chinese control Hollywood, didnt they make them change the story line for Red Dawn so they were not depicted as the invaders? How much military equipment do think they have in Central and South America already?

How about when they find out the Chinese don’t actually have any money, it’s just a fictitious rumour, like the federal reserve? Poor old Costa Ricans, a plethora of Chinese police cars they can’t get parts for. The queen will probably buy it for a pound and turn it in to another commonwealth country, that’ll make 55 votes on any UN decision. Beware of the whitehead, she’s the Don.

That’s not true. They have gold. We’re the ones with the dollars.

        • Banderman

Yeah, nearly worthless, fiat paper. Brilliant conclusion on your part; not.

        • Anonymous

But….But….. Gold is not backed by anything. Unlike the Dollar which is backed by the US Government & B Obama!

The only thing the Americans have done in Costa Rica, is amplify the image of the ugly American. Buy up CR and putting a price on it, that no one can afford, not even Americans. Instead of getting CR into a working, viable country, the rightwing in the US….are destroying it.

      • Warren

I don’t usually bite on this kind of bait, but… I disagree with your rant, entirely. I have never once seen any behavior by a U.S. citizen in C.R. that is anything but respectful and cooperative. As to prices, I have not seen any effect of the small U.S. presence on prices except for real estate in a few small well-to-do “Gringo Ghettos” here and there. And even in those, the prices are bid up more by wealthy San Jose businessmen than by others. As for purchase of other goods, well, CR loves US citizens to spend money. Things like cars, TVs, computers, etc., all have a roughly 60% “impuesta” (tax). So an American buys a computer? That doesn’t raise the price of computers; that just puts hundreds of dollars into the CR government. As for being a “working viable country”, good golly, IT IS!!! Some problems here and there, but generally CR is in far better shape than any other place in Central America except perhaps Panama.

Thank you for that -interesting response. Information with facts always sheds light on subjects that I know nothing about so the truth does surface hear and there.

the cars work but for only a short period of time, the chinese missles only have to work one time and i bet they do.

      • Volcano

I agree Barry: A better platform for them shorter range missiles, No response time for us we’re Doomed, NOT surprised there was no Summit meeting on “NATIONAL SECURITY” For the USA. Are we surprised the Obama Admin didn’t say a thing after all he’s running a “TRANSPARENCY” Government,…Lol

lol, the funny thing is everyone is so upset about this, when it is simply china doing something that the u.s. has been doing for a long time. dont be hypocrites. the chinese have every right to operate their affairs the same as any other country in the world. just because we dont like them doesnt mean we get to tell them that they have to remain a third world country. classic case of the pot calling the kettle black.

      • R.evol.utionary.1.2013

if we really want the right to tell other countries to change the way they operate, then we, first, have to change the way we operate. then, and only then can we, with any moral authority, condemn other countries for actions like this.

Either you are a moron or a shill!or you forgot to say LOL?
What would you rather have, the Gold or the Zionists monopoly (Fake) Money.
The USA has no more Gold.
Could not even produce proof to Germany when they wanted their gold back from the Federal Reserve, having their own safe place for it now. America has fallen and its not Obamas fault but those that are using him as a Fall Guy.Same crap,Satans,Children that prints the phoney money.

this is another mort story for sure you picked a mongering editorial and made it even more mongering you sir are stupid. its bad when you can guess who posted the story just by the title.
if a creditable author reposted this story the title would have been more like one of these “costa rica in bed with china” “costa rica and china make a $1.5 billion trade agreement” “china’s eyes now set on costa rica” ” china using its economic influence in costa rica” or a thousand others. i would give mort, barracuda, and king of sham each $250 to permenantly quit posting stories on bin. then again i know better they would just make a new account

    • Well Pat

All you try too slight a China with a propuganda. People of the Costa Rica no like trust U.S. because you put all theml in a guantanamo bay of pigs. At least we have a Chinese soldier who help a people and not do Abu-Graib at the airports. We help a Costa Rica. Maybe we help a USA too but first you eat a Chinese apple as is very delicious better than your apple from Washington and drive Geely Tiger GT! You will like. The end.

      • Smiddywesson

“At least we have a Chinese soldier who help a people”

Like they helped them in Tianamen Square? LOL
Fact, the biggest army maintained by China is the one they use to keep the people down.
Fact, spending on quelling unrest and keeping “the peace” within China’s borders has increased exponentially.
Fact, censorship by the government is at an all time high. You don’t have to increase censorship to these extremes unless there’s a problem. There’s a problem.

        China is doomed

        • Well Pat

Hey Shmiddeywesson you American no history like hole in head. China a 5000 year of peace until U. S. queen England poison China with a Opium. Then your navy do slave trade for Chinese railway worker. China now easy make family farm. Also education is free and understand meaning of exponentially because obviously you don’t. You show stupid frowny face make like sad for China but only you show true racist color. You need more discipline.

So much for retiring to Costa Rica…

    • Smiddywesson

I’m still not over the Japanese buying Rockerfeller Center. I mean, that was the canary in the coal mine that they were going to take over the world, right?

Let them spend their money where they want, it won’t change the facts that they have a country with no farmland, no water, and a billion people of different races, religions and over 250 different languages/dialects.

Combine that with a generation where most of the girls were aborted and where there are no jobs due to the depression, a generation that was told all their suffering was to make a better tommorrow, and they’ll be lucky if there EVEN IS A CHINA in the next decade.

The SinoUnion will go the way of the Soviet Union and all the “experts” can prattle on about how nobody saw it coming.

      Costarrican here!
Please, let’s make the deal clear here…
This was specifically a government agreement…
All the people here is very disappointed for this. The oil refinery is a very questionable deal…
Today on the news, there was a story about the blueprints for the refinery.. there where approved 12 months ago!! when nobody knew about this deal… and if this is not enough.. there was a international eco organization, taking care of the Baulas turtles… just in the coast near the refinery project… well… one of their members was killed 2 weeks ago during his night shift patrolling the beach… the police said they where drug cartel hit mans… but this assassination was clearly a signal for the eco organization to leave the protection project and leave open the option to build the refinery.
The government asked for the eco impact of building next to te coast 6 monts ago… the research (Made by the government) said that there is no possible damage to the ecosystem since this is not a turtle area… so.. how do you explain 72 turtles putting eggs on this zone on the last week?
Something is very wrong with the costarrican government… and I’m very happy that all this deal is liking to the international ears and eyes.
Please let everyone knowing about this sick government!!

    • tico

Mort. A tico here.. tico stands for… research! Something you probably need to work on.
Costa Rica is not for sale. We sure do get help from other goverments, but we hate to get it from china as well as from usa. Research will let you know that the majority of ticos do not agree with those deals with the chinese gov. in regards to the army comment. Not army will stand in our land… not gringos ( there is no oil here ) not chinese.. there is no such thing as military forces here… thats not an option.
