The Biggest Mistake Ever Made in History

July 20 is the anniversary of what may be the worst mistake in the history of the world: the Chinese communist regime’s persecution of over 100 million people who practice Falun Gong.

Since the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) came to power in 1949, it has maintained a climate of fear by periodically persecuting various groups of citizens, ensuring that the terrorized population would be compliant. In 1999, then-CCP leader Jiang Zemin became jealous of the immense popularity of Falun Gong and launched a mass persecution against its practitioners.

Founded in China in the 1990s, the spiritual practice Falun Gong is based on the principles of truthfulness, compassion, and tolerance. It includes five meditative exercises, and those who practice it have reported substantial health benefits and an improvement in their moral values and interpersonal relationships.

Falun Gong spread quickly by word of mouth until, by 1999, one in 12 people in China were practicing it.

After July 20, state media launched fabricated reports to slander Falun Gong in China and worldwide. Massive numbers of practitioners have been arrested and tortured in labor camps.

In the 15 years since the persecution began, there hasn’t been a single incident of violence from Falun Gong practitioners, as Falun Gong teaches one to be kind under all circumstances. Practitioners have, however, made a point of revealing Jiang’s hidden atrocities to the world.

Governments around the world are now condemning the persecution and demanding its end.  The CCP has been completely embarrassed among the international community, even as it continues to murder and torture practitioners.

Jiang himself has admitted that he regrets starting the persecution, according to Hong Kong’s Frontline magazine, the Epoch Times reported.

Of course, Jiang didn’t say he was sorry for any of the lives lost, the families torn apart, or the heinous crimes against humanity.  Rather, he lamented that the persecution had damaged his reputation.

“CCP officials encounter protests wherever they visit,” the Epoch Times stated. “Those officials who have been heavily involved in the persecution have faced lawsuits and even arrest during visits abroad, which damages the image of the CCP officials and the state.”

In addition, banning a practice that improves citizens’ health and moral values may not have been the most well-thought-out plan.  Any normal government would welcome such citizens.

Indeed, Falun Gong practitioners are welcomed in every country that is not under the CCP’s control.  Before the persecution, even Chinese state-run media and many CCP officials regularly praised the effects of Falun Gong, and Jiang’s own wife and grandson practiced it.

Probably the worst effect the persecution has had on the CCP, though, is contained in the Chinese saying: “Good will be rewarded with good, and evil with evil; it is just a matter of time.” In the West, we say “What goes around comes around.”

The CCP has dug its own grave, and it is destined to echo the fall of the communist regimes that went before it.

In fact, retribution has already begun.  Over 400 CCP officials that were involved in the persecution have now been purged from the Party by Xi Jinping, the current leader.

Some feel this is a clear case of retribution at work, where cosmic laws are asserted and wicked deeds do not go unnoticed.

Understanding this inevitable progression, many Chinese people—171,733,378 people to date—have formally quit the CCP.  They seek to divorce themselves from its crimes against humanity, and this can only do them good.
