Here is the cold hard truth about Kung Fu, in case the video did not say it. I know this to be a fact.
Nothing that is taught today is the real art. Kung Fu and Karate were both developed as weapons, and the goal was to kill with the first shot. The American intelligence agencies have the original real art they teach to important employees, and there is no such thing as discipline and all the B.S. that goes with martial arts as they are taught now.
Real martial arts teach how to break knees and elbows, and cause fatal brain damage with only one hit. If the real stuff was being taught by all the kung fu academies, few would survive competitions or training.
That is all there is to it.
There are still some real arts out there. I studied an Okinawan MA called Uechi Ryu, taught in the “old style”. The very first thing they teach you is how to rip out a mans ribs with your bare hands. They also begin with how to crush the heart with one blow, and to break arms and legs. All with one strike. We learn all the pressure points, just like in acupuncture, so we are taught all the vulnerable spots. You may be surprised at how many there really are. After the beginning student masters those it just gets really nasty after that. Any high level practitioner in that style could easily kill nearly anyone in a few seconds…
That’s the western way of thinking not the eastern way. There is much more to it than fighting. Breathing moving center and balance and preparing yourself mentally. If you learn true martial arts you will always have that discipline with you.
I study/practice both Shotokan Karate and Si Lum Kung Fu. Both of my instructors (Sensei and Sifu) made it clear from the beginning that what we were being taught would not be accepted or allowed in competition since we were being taught to destroy.
Please don’t make broad brush statements. What you’ve stated is false and is most certainly NOT a fact as you have stated.
There’s no truth in it. Just Buddhism.
Great video. Much truth to it.
Frankly, I’ve never met an asian who’s heard of “Kung Fu”.except starring David Carradine! But, in China, T’ai chi ch’uan, yes. and, just by looking at the name Chinese you can see that there is a discipline , a living philosophy included with it. The people that learned these arts did indeed learn all these skills to cause death. They weren’t polite taps meant to just “injure” the opponent ! .. But the people, usually assasins or bodyguards for hire by the emperor etc.. that studied these skills ALSO had to learn a form of living and other disciplines. It was a full package, just like every other asian discipline.
We all seen how valuable Gung-fu was during the boxer rebellion. That’s why they changed it to a “spiritual” thing instead because they found out how useless it was against Western technology and to save face as well as an art.
What you are talking about in this article is typical street fighting. That has another set of rules NEVER talked about. Basically it’s being MEAN!
Being mean insinuates a mindset of one who intends to inflict pain rather than to defend. That mindset will get you killed by a practitioner who wishes to do no harm to others but will kill those who wish to do harm.
Ummm no. I don’t think you know what I’m talking about.
What many think they are learning is actually watered down for westerners who could never tolerate the true teachings. Many of the arts, except for the offshoots as taught by westerner retain their purity and secrets within the different sects/clans etc of which few if any will ever learn. When I trained, I was taught to destroy an opponent. …I was not the best but as sense said, I eas better than everyone because I loved the art. My only concern was that I was only allowed to learn up to a certain level which caused me to leave several dojos….One thing I can say is that I reached a level of spirituality I can’t even explain to this day–”’–even experienced kundalani
I don’t know karate, but I know crazy
It goes in this order:
Guts (crazy)
power/strength
techniques
The old masters rarely teach anyone completely; thus, they withhold the vital moves.
This is Chinese tradition of pure self serving. Many true fighting techniques have gone to the grave along with them throughout thousands of years.
Most young Chinese students spend years learning just katas or pushing hands; which is “art” not “martial”. Katas trains your body to move according to the given style and the pushing hand exercise trains you to interchange movements according to the given style.
A given style means restriction, the modern day UFC proves that too well. So, the tiger, crane, snake, dragon, praying mantis, hung kuen and etc.. have been and still are one big historic cold war in China. Actually, many Japanese and Korean techniques are very effective. I consider them the true martial part of martial arts.
I myself practice Wing Chun, boxing and Gracie’s grappling. The Filipino Kali/Escrima and knife techniques. Another word I follow my friend and big brother Bruce Lee’s suggestion.. MMA.
The very first practitioner(s), who developed a form, learned those moves, either by spiritism, or an animistic study of nature. In short, by direct observation.
Christian fundamentalists will probably disagree with me, for engaging in this line of discussion, because it seems to lead to occultism. But, I believe that we are tri-partate beings, made in the image of a Living God — a body, mind, and spirit.
There’s a saying about a Napoleonic, little dog, vs. the typically-more-laid-back, bigger dog.
In the physical, I am that bigger dog and, typically, more laid back.
Where martial arts are discussed, people like to advertise how intimidating they are. It happens without fail.
But, the discussion is about mentalism.
You were explicitly told that one art started as internal, and adopted external forms.
Another art started as external, and adopted internal forms.
These are two lines of discussion, and the aggressive, little dogs aren’t grasping the difference.
Only the most experienced of martial artists, in the video, displayed conservation of physical force, and no amount of discipline, whether physical or mental, is going to save his soul.
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”
– Eph 2:8-9
One side of the discussion is trying to prevail, through coercive, physical force, and the other side through mind over matter.
Accept the gift, which is freely given to you, and prevail through grace.
