MIDDLE EAST MESS . . . WikiLeaks: Arabs Supported U.S. Attack on Iran

The latest installment in the WikiLeaks broadcast of sensitive U.S. military intelligence information has pulled back the curtain on a colossal plot twist in the Middle East.

Documents reveal what many policy experts would surmise, but no one could confirm that Arab nations actually agree with their Israeli neighbor in its contention that Iran, driven by the pursuit of nuclear power, poses the greatest threat to the entire region.

In fact, documents not only reveal that these Arab countries quietly supported a U.S.-led attack on Iran’s nuclear development facilities, but some most notably Saudi Arabia even “urged” America to strike.

Now, while Israel is leveraging this information to galvanize its long-standing case against Iran, America stands to lose diplomatic face and suffer a serious erosion of trust that could make any kind of coalition move against the Iranians even if a silent, turn-the-other-way coalition extremely difficult to broker.

Two Middle East analysts offer unmatched insight. They’re currently conducting talk show tours on this timely topic.

Avi Lipkin is a former member of the Israeli Defense Forces and a former translator inside the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office. Living inside Israel, Lipkin is immersed in Arab tensions every day and follows the movements within Iran very closely.

“Part of the tremendous damage caused to the U.S. administration and the free world involves the disclosure that many Arab countries, including Saudi Arabia, were demanding action by the U.S. against Iran. Indeed, the crash during maneuvers of an Israeli Air Force helicopter in the Romanian mountains last summer was in preparation for the war with Iran, as are the covert operations taking place right now within Iran this according to Israeli analysts. This crash was on the first page of all Israeli newspapers, but ignored here in the States. The fanatic Shi’ite regime of the Ayatollahs is seen as a threat to the Sunnis, especially Sunni Arabs a threat greater than that of the Israelis or Americans to the Arabs. But now, Jordan is declaring it does not support any military strike against Iran, trying to distance itself from the strategy of military confrontation with Iran. Probably other Sunni Arab countries will follow suit out of fear of Iranian retaliation against them.”

IQ al-Rassooli is an Iraqi-born engineering student turned theological scholar and Muslim defector. Along with being a perfect complement to Lipkin as another informed authority on the Middle East, al-Rassooli can apply a sound perspective on the Islamic mentality behind the movements of these Arab nations, and how critical it is for the U.S. to understand this mentality.

I.Q. al-Rassooli was born in Iraq. His mother tongue is Arabic.

He was sent by his parents to study engineering at a university in England. But, after graduating, he decided to stay because he discovered that the “programming” he had received at home about other peoples was one-sided and wrong.
