Annual Catholic Appeal begins in parishes this weekend

“Lord, what do you want me to do with the gifts you have given me?”

Parishioners asking that question can turn to the Annual Catholic Appeal, which begins in parishes this weekend and which makes possible the Church’s mission of evangelization, education and many ministries of charity.

“The stewardship and generosity of Catholics across the Archdiocese of St. Louis to the Annual Catholic Appeal help the Church to share Christ’s love with people of many different faiths and many different needs. Their gifts keep our Catholic parishes, schools, and other ministries Alive in Christ and responsive to the genuine needs of our neighbors. The appeal is not just about helping Catholics, it is about helping all God’s people,” said Archbishop Robert J. Carlson.

The 2011 appeal supports a variety of programs helping people, from those who are homeless and hungry to retired priests to children from parishes and schools in need of resources.

The appeal goal is $12 million. Almost 40 percent of funds raised will go to Catholic education, such as aid to archdiocesan high schools; 22 percent to programs serving parishes and people, such as Sts. Joachim and Ann Care Service in St. Charles; and 21 percent to benefits and services for clergy, such as continuing formation for priests (Continue reading…).
