Family foundation sees to it that kids get to play in CYC

Charlie Krebeck served the CYC sports program for more than 40 years as a dedicated volunteer as an umpire, referee and in various roles for his parish, St. Simon, and for the South County District.

Though he died in 2010, his legacy has lived on with a field named in his honor and now with the Krebeck Foundation, which was set up to provide children without resources an opportunity to play sports in the programs operated by the archdiocesan Catholic Youth Apostolate.

Charlie Krebeck was involved in various sports, and he received numerous awards and even a special day in his honor from the Missouri legislature, said his son, Keith Krebeck.

The idea of the foundation is to help CYC programs in parishes and players who lack funding, Keith Krebeck said. “The main thing is for the kids to play. I find that enriching and want kids to have the same opportunity I had.”
