The people of that day wanted nothing to do with God and were existing immorally, it seems history is repeating itself.

Christians do not cease to be human simply because they become Christians… so, naturally, they make mistakes, fall to temptation like the rest of humanity. It is unreasonable to hold Christians, or others, to a higher standard of conduct. It is also unreasonable to expect a new Christian to act as a matured Christian. Christianity is a lifetime of little steps towards inner-refinement with the objective of becoming more Christ-like; more helpful, more generous, more patient, more compassionate, more tolerant, kinder, gentler, more loving, wiser, braver etc. New and slow Christians must also be allowed time to stumble, fall, regain footing etc.
Although Christians, like all others, have committed the worst of crimes, they did not do so with the objective of furthering Christianity. Never in history has Christianity commanded its servants to kill their own children if they dare an attempt to leave the body of Christ, nor has it encouraged the death and persecution of non-Christians to honor Yahweh. This is the defining difference… a difference that is so distinctive and critical that every lucid mind can instantly distinguish.
In order to rationalize a baseless hate for Christians, anti-Christians must hold them to an unjust standard and they must hold all Christians accountable for the ancient, atrocious acts of the Catholic Church.
