God Speaks to New Christian, Through Dictionary - HolyText.org

Don’t believe that God spoke to me? I didn’t either for a while.

I had just came out of lordship salvation and works salvation, both are false teachings. But as a new Christian, I had doubts. I felt relief because I knew I could never stop sinning and just having faith in Jesus seemed so easy. One side told me I had to stop sinning or I wasn’t truly saved, the other side told me salvation was by faith alone in Christ alone. I was confused and the only person that could ease my mind was God Himself. So what did I do? I asked Him.

I knew it was wrong to test God but I could not sleep, I could not get my mind off it and since He is God, He should know I am not doing it just to do it, but instead I truly needed Him. I have a 100 year old Oxford dictionary I had bought years ago as an atheist, just because I enjoyed old books. The thought randomly popped into my mind to pick any page of that dictionary, by the way that thing is thick, there’s thousands of words in it. So I decided to do it and because either God would speak to me or He wouldn’t, I made it as ‘difficult’ as possible. Not only did I close my eyes and pick a random page, I also pointed to a specific word on the page, whilst my eyes were still closed. I thought, if God truly is speaking to me then this is the only thing I will ever believe.

‘God if salvation is by faith alone, show me.’ I chose a random page and then my finger falls upon a random word, I open my eyes in anticipation and doubt, but there it was; “satisfy” defined as; Pay (debt, rarely creditor), fulfil (obligation), comply with (demand), (of Christ) make atonement for sins of men;

Absolute joy hit my heart, this was it, God was actually communicating with me through an old book, me a sinner, someone who didn’t deserve to even read His Holy Word, the creator of all spoke to me. This is all I ever wanted, all I ever needed, all I would ever need. That joy lasted for about 10 seconds before it turned to doubt. What if that was just a coincidence? An accident? I had to know for sure, I asked God to forgive me and I closed the dictionary and did it again. This time the hope of getting anything was a lot less, I had little faith and I open my eyes and there it is; “know” and right next to that word was “knock” and I instantly thought of Matthew 7:7-8 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
