Is a Two-State solution Biblical?

News From Jerusalem

by Tom Brennan,

The nations are aligning against Israel, That’s for sure. PM Netanyahu is being pressured by world powers to grant independence to the Palestinian Authority to establish a separate state of Palestine. This, they say, will guarantee the safety and security of Israel. We’ve seen how well that has worked in Gaza, haven’t we? But can Israel give away land that has been given in Covenant? The answer is clearly no.

Is a Two-State solution Biblical?

No matter which book of Scripture we consult, Israel’s borders exceed today’s territory. Scripture says these will be restored at some future time. In spite of today’s political environment which includes changes in alliances with former friends, terror weapon attacks from within and outside, new alliances with nations such as India and China which were unheard of in Moses’ time, eternal covenants are, well, eternal.

Few traditional Christians completely comprehend covenants. Throughout Scripture The Almighty conducts His works with man through covenants. There were extensive rituals used to impress the recipient (human) with the importance of the agreement. Violation of the covenant involved a death pledge (today mortgage is a contemporary term with similar ancient meaning). The New Covenant was pledged and kept by the Messiah who took our place as the victim of the ultimate sacrifice. The Almighty has promised His blessing in return for obedience.

Covenants can coexist; the Mosaic and Noachide still do, despite mistaken interpretations. This opens up the question and response: can land given in covenant in perpetuity be given away in exchange for “peace” (as defined by the enemy, whose record of compliance is totally negative)? A Two-State solution is anti-Biblical.
