(Before It's News)
Be merciful, just as [also] your Father is merciful. Luke 6:36
The Year of Mercy has come to an end, the grace of God given so freely, was highlighted, with the emphasis on compassion, understanding, forgiveness, and the joy that mercy brings. Looking at the headlines on the news, our world does not seem to be a more merciful place, it seems as intolerant, as hateful, as selfish, and as indifferent as ever. What was the point of the Year of Mercy? Was it to transform and change? Was it to challenge and cajole? Yes, but hearts were to be touched by mercy, not nations. Hearts; broken, humbled, contrite, open to the touch of grace; hearts willing to embrace the adventure of the grace that is mercy. Individual hearts blest with the mercy of God, are a force for good, for love, for hope too.
Lord Jesus, continue to touch my heart with mercy,
so that I may be merciful.
Lord heal my humbled, broken heart, weighed down by sin,
may your mercy be fruitful.
Lord Jesus, source of mercy, stream of grace, bathe me in mercy,
Lord allow me the grace to quieten my heart, and
examine my motives in the light of your heart ever merciful. Amen
