Hope for the weary “news hound”.

Freelance journalists spend many hours online seeking information for the stories they write. You absorb so much that yours head spins, eyes grow weary and a certain amount of depression at the current state of world affairs results. “As it was in the days of Noah…..” It’s easy to feel down and hopeless. Most medical sources now say that excessive or even moderate involvement with social media, digital devices and just plain computers is not good for physical or mental health. Thanks to The Almighty for two helpers. I manage a barn for a local equestrian and trainer and God’s creatures in all their messes and glory keep me physical active with feeding, cleaning, watering, pampering and spoiling and an occasional ride. These beauties are very deserving of every carrot and combing (in their humble opinion) and I am privileged to provide all the equine amenities. The second helper is my friend and editor Ian Norton. I have worked with Ian since 2014 and although we have only spoken on Skype (Ian was the generous loser of sleep since Israel is 8 hours ahead of the Western USA), we correspond almost daily. His emails and Facebook posts keep me sane in a world gone mad.

The other day as I sent an article for JGS, I whined about how crazy the whole world had become as I tore through my multi-page email list, Youtube subscription and newsletters. Ian reminded me that in all the trials, difficulties and onslaughts of terrorist, warring armies and wars and rumors of wars one truth stands out: God uses all these for His Glory. And we are invited to share in that Glory, we just have to trust and do it fully. He told us that all these would come. He also told us that the reward for those who stayed faithful would be unimaginable.

This morning as I ploughed my way through the daily lists, after seeing that all my “bosses” were fed, watered and had their grain of course, I smiled as I remembered Ian’s wise words. Thanks to The Almighty for His creatures with manes and tails and for His servants such as Ian who keep us reasonably sane and fully motivated in the work we do.
