The Magic of Santa Claus

It might not seem very prudent of me to put Santa Claus in my writings about my Angels.  However, beliefs have a lot to do with how we perceive reality.  Santa Claus helps us to redefine reality and shape it into something we WISH were true.  I think EVERYONE wants to believe that there is such a person as Santa Claus.  We don’t want to know how he can spend less than one thousandth of a second in every house in the world and deliver all those presents.  But then I read what NORAD has to say about how Santa does this on its Santa Tracker website.  Santa doesn’t live by the same rules we do.  He defies EVERY known law of physics imaginable.  But how can he do this, we might ask.  Actually, it’s not that difficult if you can imagine that Santa Claus isn’t quite human.  Really.  Allow me to explain this.

First of all, Santa doesn’t die, or that if he gets old, we are led to believe that there will always be a Santa regardless of what happens to the current one.  Secondly, Santa exists apart from how we understand time and space.  He isn’t bound by the same physical laws that bind humans.  We are bound by physical laws because we are limited in what we can do.  But Santa isn’t bound to the same laws.  He lives by his own set of physical laws.  Thirdly, there is his place in the North Pole, which no one has ever seen, but believers are convinced that it’s there.  And how do we know it’s there?  We just believe it exists, just as elves and flying reindeer exist.  We know they exist because Santa Claus exists.  He exists in the hearts of those who believe in him.  And then finally, Sana Claus isn’t just about an old guy with a beard giving gifts, but that he keeps alive the spirit and the meaning of Christmas, because we are told it’s not the getting that matters most, but how much we give to others.  Santa is real, because in the hearts of many people Christmas isn’t just one day a year, but exists always.  And this is why we believe in Santa Clause because he doesn’t die.  If Santa lived a mortal life and his life came to an end, that would be the end of Christmas as we know it.  Santa lives because we don’t want the spirit of Christmas to die. 

Now, if you were to substitute Santa Claus for Jesus and the North Pole as the manger and then you add the wise men for the elves and then make the animals in the stable the flying reindeer you have the makings of the perfect Santa Claus.  And the myth of Santa Claus works because in effect the spirit of Christmas given to us by the Son of God works.  It’s really the same thing.  But unlike Santa Claus the Son of God who came to us that night some two thousand years ago is really the same as Santa Claus.  And it all works because in effect Jesus’ life didn’t end on the cross, but that He is alive in the hearts of people all over the world.  Just substitute Jesus for Santa Claus and I would suggest that if you believe in Santa Claus, then you believe in Jesus as the Son of God too.
