Bible Story of the Day

The entire Bible is a revelation about Jesus Christ. From beginning to end, Jesus can be found in the text within. Seeing Jesus in scripture is a major step into understanding who our God is, and how He impacts and affects our lives in every moment. My desire through this Bible story of the day project is to show you the reference to Jesus in the Old Testament, and how the story can impact your life. My references will be posted at the bottom along with links that can help you dive deeper into the story than what I have done here. Open your heart and mind and be willing to accept scripture for what it says. If you don’t understand a story or verse or how it applies to your life, then pray to God for clarity and understanding. I pray this helps and affects your life and you have a better understanding of our Lord Jesus Christ.

David in 1 Samuel

1 Samuel 16:10-13

¹⁰ Thus Jesse made seven of his sons pass before Samuel. But Samuel said to Jesse, “The Lord has not chosen these.” ¹¹ And Samuel said to Jesse, “Are these all the children?” And he said, “There remains yet the youngest, and behold, he is tending the sheep.” Then Samuel said to Jesse, “Send and bring him; for we will not sit down until he comes here.” ¹² So he sent and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, with beautiful eyes and a handsome appearance. And the Lord said, “Arise, anoint him; for this is he.” ¹³ Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the Lord came mightily upon David from that day forward. And Samuel arose and went to Ramah. (NASB).

Where is Jesus and What Does This Mean to Us?

David is one of the most beloved men of the Old Testament. Christians and Jews place him in high regard today as much as he was thousands of years ago. There are countless lessons learned from the life of David. He was a great leader. He was a faithful believer in God. He had his shortcomings and learned from his mistakes. David and his rise to become king represents Jesus and His coming as the King of Kings. The Nation of Israel wanted a king. Samuel the Prophet, went to anoint the new king. God told him it was David. No one thought it would be David. He was just a sheepherder, just like when Jesus came, and people were skeptical and didn’t believe because He did not come like they thought He should. Another example of David representing Jesus is through his humility and patience. David was working in the fields the day he was anointed king. He didn’t get puffed up by prestige. He waited 17 years after his anointment before he became king. Could you imagine winning the lottery, but being told you couldn’t have it for 17 years? Would it change you? It didn’t change David.

What does this mean for us? First, Jesus is patient. He has waited for so many of us to come to Him. He could have already judged us, but He hasn’t yet, so there is still time to be saved and have a relationship with Jesus. We do not deserve His patience, but He gives it to us. Jesus didn’t come to earth like many “scholars” thought He would and they missed out. Things do not happen like we think they should, but that may be part of the plan. Do not miss a blessing or gift from God because it doesn’t look like you think it should. We have already missed so much because of our misguided expectations. Thankfully Jesus is patient and continues to give us chances. None of us know if tomorrow will be the last day. Jesus has already showed immeasurable amount of patience and grace for us. You do not want to find yourself outside of His grace.

Make today the day you get right with Jesus. Life may not look like you think it should, but I promise you that somewhere within whatever you are going through is a wonderful blessing. Jesus is right here waiting for you. Don’t be like those that were blind to His love and grace 2000 years ago.
