Bible Story of the Day

The entire Bible is a revelation about Jesus Christ. From beginning to end, Jesus can be found in the text within. Seeing Jesus in scripture is a major step into understanding who our God is, and how He impacts and affects our lives in every moment. My desire through this Bible story of the day project is to show you the reference to Jesus in the Old Testament, and how the story can impact your life. My references will be posted at the bottom along with links that can help you dive deeper into the story than what I have done here. Open your heart and mind and be willing to accept scripture for what it says. If you don’t understand a story or verse or how it applies to your life, then pray to God for clarity and understanding. I pray this helps and affects your life and you have a better understanding of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Psalm 40 Prophecy of Jesus

Psalm 40:6-8

⁶Sacrifice and meal offering You have not desired;
My ears You have opened;
Burnt offering and sin offering You have not required.
⁷ Then I said, “Behold, I come;
In the scroll of the book it is written of me.
⁸ I delight to do Your will, O my God;
Your Law is within my heart.”

Where is Jesus and What Does This Mean to Us?

We change up in this Bible story from men being the example of Jesus Christ to a prophecy of Jesus’ coming. David wrote psalm 40 around 1015 B.C. David wrote about the coming of Jesus over 1000 years before it happened. This is a very specific passage making a very specific statement. The passage is Jesus speaking through David as he writes this for us. Jesus is telling us that He will come and be the sacrifice for everyone, and He is delighted to do so. At this time in history, Israelites had to offer animal sacrifices once a year, or more frequently, for their sins. Jesus is telling us that we will no longer have to do this, because He will be the burnt offering. There is no way that David could have made this prediction, rather prophecy, 1000 years before it happened without the divine intervention of God. This verse and the Book of Psalm was widely accepted well before Jesus walked on earth. This verse is confirmed in the Gospel of Matthew and the letter to Hebrews. Scripture verifies scripture. The New Testament speaks of Old Testament truth, and the Old Testament tells of what will be written in the New Testament. All for the glory of God. Only an all-knowing, all-wise God of the world could have known what would happen 1000 years in advance.

What does this mean for us? It means that 3000 years ago people struggled with sin just as we do today. Many of the same things of that time happen today such as drunkenness, adultery, and prostitution. God gave us all a way out of the sin we are imprisoned by. He planned on His son dying for our sin as the sacrificial lamb to take away the sin of the world. Whatever is going on in your life today, God knows the struggle. He knows that the things you do you don’t want to do. He knows that despite your best efforts at trying to be a “better person” that you fall short. We all do. They did 3000 years ago. God told them there is hope in Jesus Christ. That 3000-year-old message applies to us today. There is hope. There is forgiveness. There is Jesus Christ, who died and rose again on the third day to defeat sin and death and provide us eternal life. Jesus was their hope 3000 years ago, before He even died on the cross, and now He is our hope and has died on the cross. He will return again to judge the living and the dead. You do not have to be judge on that day. You can be redeemed and found righteous through Jesus today. The 3000-year-old choice is yours to make today. Don’t wait for tomorrow that we are not guaranteed.
