Bible Story of the Day

The entire Bible is a revelation about Jesus Christ. From beginning to end, Jesus can be found in the text within. Seeing Jesus in scripture is a major step into understanding who our God is, and how He impacts and affects our lives in every moment. My desire through this Bible story of the day project is to show you the reference to Jesus in the Old Testament, and how the story can impact your life. My references will be posted at the bottom along with links that can help you dive deeper into the story than what I have done here. Open your heart and mind and be willing to accept scripture for what it says. If you don’t understand a story or verse or how it applies to your life, then pray to God for clarity and understanding. I pray this helps and affects your life and you have a better understanding of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Ruth and Boaz

Ruth 4:13-15

¹³ So Boaz took Ruth, and she became his wife, and he went in to her. And the Lord enabled her to conceive, and she gave birth to a son.¹⁴ Then the women said to Naomi, “Blessed is the Lord who has not left you without a redeemer today, and may his name become famous in Israel. ¹⁵ May he also be to you a restorer of life and a sustainer of your old age; for your daughter-in-law, who loves you and is better to you than seven sons, has given birth to him.” (NASB).

Where is Jesus and What Does This Mean to Us?

Ruth is a short book in the Bible only consisting of 4 chapters. The story is about Ruth’s life leading up to meeting and marrying a man named Boaz. The verses I pulled from the book are the climax when the two finally become one in marriage. As with any story in the Bible, there are many lessons that can be learned from the story. As I have explained before, my focus is to show you Jesus. The first thing we need to understand when reading this story is that this followed customs of thousands of years ago. This is not a modern-day story. Customs and traditions change. Don’t let the strange traditions of a certain time period bend you around the axle from the true message of redemption. The focus of the Book of Ruth is that when people are faithful, God is faithful. Jesus is represented as Boaz in this story, and Ruth represents the Israelites but truly represents all of God’s people, which includes all of us. Boaz is the redeemer of Ruth. Ruth is his relative that is poor and without income and living day by day. Jesus is our redeemer. He is our Father; He is family. We have nothing without Jesus, but with Jesus we are rich.

What does this mean for us? Jesus loves us. He loves you! He paid a price for us. He bought us with the blood He shed on the cross. He didn’t buy us to put us in slavery. He bought us to free us and give us a better life; an eternal life. He is our Father. He is family. There may be a time when you feel no one wants you, but there is at least one, and that is Jesus Christ. No one wanted Ruth. She was left to fend for herself and her mother-in-law by picking up scraps in a field. Boaz saw her, fell in love with her, and paid the price to free her from her current conditions. She loved him as well. It was a perfect relationship just like the relationship Jesus wants with us. He has first loved us. He has paid the price for our freedom. He wants our love in return. Jesus has redeemed us from the penalty of death. He has taken the first step in building an eternal relationship with each one of us. I have accepted His offer of an eternal relationship with Him. What more will it take for you to accept His offer as well?
