Bible Story of the Day

The entire Bible is a revelation about Jesus Christ. From beginning to end, Jesus can be found in the text within. Seeing Jesus in scripture is a major step into understanding who our God is, and how He impacts and affects our lives in every moment. My desire through this Bible story of the day project is to show you the reference to Jesus in the Old Testament, and how the story can impact your life. My references will be posted at the bottom along with links that can help you dive deeper into the story than what I have done here. Open your heart and mind and be willing to accept scripture for what it says. If you don’t understand a story or verse or how it applies to your life, then pray to God for clarity and understanding. I pray this helps and affects your life and you have a better understanding of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Jesus is the Bridegroom

Psalm 45:6-15

6 Your throne, O God, is forever and ever;
A scepter of uprightness is the scepter of Your kingdom.
7 You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness;
Therefore God, Your God, has anointed You
With the oil of joy above Your fellows.
8 All Your garments are fragrant with myrrh and aloes and cassia;
Out of ivory palaces stringed instruments have made You glad.
9 Kings’ daughters are among Your noble ladies;
At Your right hand stands the queen in gold from Ophir.

10 Listen, O daughter, give attention and incline your ear:
Forget your people and your father’s house;
11 Then the King will desire your beauty.
Because He is your Lord, bow down to Him.
12 The daughter of Tyre will come with a gift;
The rich among the people will seek your favor.

13 The King’s daughter is all glorious within;
Her clothing is interwoven with gold.
14 She will be led to the King in embroidered work;
The virgins, her companions who follow her,
Will be brought to You.
15 They will be led forth with gladness and rejoicing;
They will enter into the King’s palace.

Where is Jesus and What Does This Mean to Us?

Psalm 45 is talking about Jesus. The later part of the chapter speaks to the church regarding Jesus’ coming. The bride often represents the church, and the groom represents Jesus Christ. The relationship between a husband and wife is similar to that between the church and Jesus. The church is not a building. It is not a denomination. It is not a specific church. The church is the entire body of believers across the entire earth. The believer in India is as much a part of Jesus’ church as the believer in the U.S. The local church is the individual group of people that meet at a specific place. One of the biggest points I could make here is that the church is not a place, it is a people. If you are a believer and you are reading this you are the church. I am sitting on this subject because it is hard for some believers to grasp.

Matthew 9:15 says, “And Jesus said to them, “The attendants of the bridegroom cannot mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them, can they? But the days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast.” (NASB). This is Jesus identifying Himself as the bridegroom. The reference is to be used in the Old Testament as an earthly understanding of a spiritual connection. The passage above speaks to the bride about leaving everything she knows for her groom. The parallel is that we are to surrender everything, including our lives, to Jesus. By doing so, we shall enter the King’s palace. The king or bridegroom desires the bride. The first verse in the passage speaks for itself; God will rule for eternity. His kingdom will have no end.

What does this mean to us? Think of a man on his wedding day. Think of every man you have known that got married or was getting married. He was completely head-over-heal in love with the bride or bride-to-be. On their wedding day, there is nothing more special to them. Emotions overflow so much that people watching a wedding begin to cry with joy. This exactly explains Jesus’ love for his church. He is so in love with us that He died for us. Who would you die for? Probably only those you were closest to, right? It is the same concept. He knows us. He loves us. He wants to have an eternal relationship with us. We are His bride. He is pursuing us. No matter what your situation is you can have a relationship with Jesus. The moment we accept His love and go with Him by believing He is who He says He is, then we will be able to have eternity in the King’s palace.

You may read this and think; “I’m no virgin” or “I’m damaged goods”. I can assure you that you are not too far gone. Jesus died to make you pure. You were never pure. We were all born in sin, and condemned to hell, or eternal death away from God. There was nothing you did to earn that right except to be born. That sounds harsh, but the good news is that there is only one hell, and if you were going there anyway then nothing you did made things worse for you. Jesus died to fix all of that. His blood has made us white as snow. We are pure through Him. We can now be the bride He deserves because of what He did. Isn’t that crazy? We have literally done nothing to have such love from Him. All we have to do is believe. What is keeping you from believing today?
