Bible Story of the Day

The entire Bible is a revelation about Jesus Christ. From beginning to end, Jesus can be found in the text within. Seeing Jesus in scripture is a major step into understanding who our God is, and how He impacts and affects our lives in every moment. My desire through this Bible story of the day project is to show you the reference to Jesus in the Old Testament, and how the story can impact your life. My references will be posted at the bottom along with links that can help you dive deeper into the story than what I have done here. Open your heart and mind and be willing to accept scripture for what it says. If you don’t understand a story or verse or how it applies to your life, then pray to God for clarity and understanding. I pray this helps and affects your life and you have a better understanding of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Job Knows His Redeemer

Job 19:23-26

²³ “Oh that my words were written!
Oh that they were inscribed in a book!
²⁴ “That with an iron stylus and lead
They were engraved in the rock forever!
²⁵ “As for me, I know that my Redeemer lives,
And at the last He will take His stand on the earth.
²⁶ “Even after my skin is destroyed,
Yet from my flesh I shall see God; (NASB).

Where is Jesus and What Does This Mean to Us?

The Book of Job recounts one of the oldest stories in scripture. Job lived in the time before the Great Flood. The events of Job’s time greatly contrast the time we live today, particularly regarding the coming of Jesus. We cannot read the Book of Job in the context of today and gain full understanding. It is important to understand the time-period he lived in. The story of Job may be one of the more common stories of the Old Testament. Job was a very rich, successful, and happy man with a large family. Job praised God for all he had. God allowed Satan to test Job’s faith. This part can be very disturbing at first consideration. It is ok to not understand everything in scripture. Chances are you never will fully understand all of scripture in this life. This test of faith was based on Satan’s claim that Job only praised God because life was good. Satan believed that if Job lost everything then he would forsake God. Job proved throughout all his hardships that he remained faithful to God. God rewarded him for his faithfulness

In this passage, Job gains strength in the knowledge of the coming Redeemer, which is Jesus Christ. He knows that Jesus is coming, but that he will be dead physically when the time comes. However, despite being “from my flesh” Job knows he will see God.

What does this mean to us? This is yet another story that Jesus is our redeemer. Job had faith in Jesus 3000+ years before Jesus was born. Jesus is our Redeemer. What does that mean? It means that there is more to this life than what we see. The terrible stories we see in the news, the terrible things done to us, and the terrible things we have done to others are only momentary. There is a life after this that is perfect and good. Our skin may be destroyed, meaning we will die physically, but we will still see God. Everything in this world will fall away just like with Job. His family died. He lost all his possessions. His friends no longer came around, and everyone he knew told him to forsake God and his life would improve. He held onto his faith in God, and was restored. Have you ever had those friends that only came around when times were good? How many things have you owned that you no longer have because it was stolen, broken or used up? Have you ever had friends give you terrible advice? Chances are you said yes to all of these questions. The answer is yes for me. Job teaches us that the one thing that we have and can hold onto even through death is our faith in Jesus Christ, our Redeemer.

Do a self-assessment. If everything you owned was taken away, who would still be by your side? If all your family died would you blame and curse God? Do you praise God for what you have now? How can we blame God for losing something but not praise Him for gaining the same thing? What is most important to your life? Do you really believe that 70-80 years here until death is all there is? What would be the point? There is more to this world, and that more is Jesus Christ. When we have Jesus; we have everything we need. Jesus is eternal. Believing He is who He says He is gives us the opportunity to be eternal with Him. Job knew that 5000 years ago. Do you know that today?
