Bible Story of the Day

Scripture is the story of Jesus, from Genesis to Revelation. There are over 400 prophecies and representations of Jesus in the Old Testament alone. The Old Testament pointed forward to the coming Christ, and the New Testament points back to Jesus.

The Bible is a record of redemption through Jesus Christ who conquered sin and death when He died on the cross and resurrected three days later.

The New Testament was written almost 2000 years ago. Some of the Old Testament was written over 4000 years ago. The Bible Story of the Day not only shows Jesus throughout scripture but shows how scripture is relevant to our lives today.

Seeing Jesus in scripture is a major step into understanding who our God is, and how He impacts and affects our lives in every moment. I pray that the Holy Spirit opens your mind to understanding the verses and how they affect your life and gives you a better understanding of our Lord Jesus Christ. On A Donkey

Zechariah 9:9

Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion!

Shout in triumph, O daughter of Jerusalem!

Behold, your king is coming to you;

He is just and endowed with salvation,

Humble, and mounted on a donkey,

Even on a colt, the foal of a donkey. (NASB).

Where is Jesus and What Does This Mean to Us?

Zechariah was a prophet to the 2 tribes of Judah around 520 B.C. Zechariah’s name means ‘The Lord has remembered.” Zechariah wrote this verse on the eve of Israel being freed from captivity after Babylon’s control and domination of the people.

Times were very difficult for the Israelites during the Babylonian rule. God chose Zechariah to be His voice to tell God’s people that He had not forgotten them.

The name, Zechariah, says it all. In verse 9, Zechariah tells us that Jesus, our King, will come for us and give us salvation. He will be mounted on a donkey.

The significance of Jesus on a donkey is that it shows humility of our Lord. Kings during that time entered a conquered land riding on a large warhorse; seated high and proud.

It was unheard of for a king to ride a donkey. Jesus is the King of kings and doesn’t have to prove Himself or change who He is to meet the standards of men.

What does this mean to us?

First, it means God remembers. God has not forsaken us. God has not forgotten about us. No matter what you may be facing in life, God has not turned His back on you. 500 years before Jesus came to die for our sins, God sent a messenger to reassure His people that salvation will come.

Salvation has come, and He rode in on a donkey. Mark 11:7, “They brought the colt to Jesus and put their coats on it; and He sat on it.” (NASB). Second, Jesus is our salvation that Zechariah proclaimed. Salvation is available for us right now. Jesus loves us and died for us.

This single verse shows us, once again, that God had a plan.

Times may be tough. You may feel trapped or imprisoned, but there is still hope, just like for the Israelites 2500 years ago. I may not know what you are going through, but Jesus does. Whatever is going on in your life will be better with Jesus by your side. Accept His gift of salvation and pray to Him about whatever is going on. He will listen, He has not forgotten you. Give your problems to Him. Talk to Him as if He was standing right next to you. He is the answer to all the problems in the world. Honestly, if you are desperate and would do anything to improve your situation why would you not go to the One that can?
