Bible Story of the Day

Scripture is the story of Jesus, from Genesis to Revelation. There are over 400 prophecies and representations of Jesus in the Old Testament alone. The Old Testament pointed forward to the coming Christ, and the New Testament points back to Jesus. The Bible is a record of redemption through Jesus Christ who conquered sin and death when He died on the cross and resurrected three days later. The New Testament was written almost 2000 years ago. Some of the Old Testament was written over 4000 years ago. The Bible Story of the Day not only shows Jesus throughout scripture but shows how scripture is relevant to our lives today. Seeing Jesus in scripture is a major step into understanding who our God is, and how He impacts and affects our lives in every moment. I pray that the Holy Spirit opens your mind to understanding the verses and how they affect your life and gives you a better understanding of our Lord Jesus Christ. Salvation

Joel 2:30-32

³⁰ “I will display wonders in the sky and on the earth,
Blood, fire and columns of smoke.
³¹ “The sun will be turned into darkness
And the moon into blood
Before the great and awesome day of the Lord comes.
³² “And it will come about that whoever calls on the name of the Lord
Will be delivered;
For on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem
There will be those who escape,
As the Lord has said,
Even among the survivors whom the Lord calls. (NASB).

Romans 10:9-13

⁹ that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; ¹⁰ for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. ¹¹ For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes in Him will not be disappointed.” ¹² For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, abounding in riches for all who call on Him; ¹³ for “Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.” (NASB).

Where is Jesus and What Does This Mean to Us?

The Book of Joel was written around the 8^th and 9^th century BC. There is disagreement on the exact date the book was written. Joel was one of the earliest writing prophets. Verse 32 from Joel spells out a prophecy of Jesus Christ that is echoed 800 years later by Paul in the Letter to the Romans. Joel writes about a series of tragic events occurring before the second coming of the Lord, Jesus. Joel states that these things must happen before the “great and awesome day that the Lord comes”. The sad truth is that there is and will be a thinning process. God is giving us a warning that if we are not believers that we will not be saved from the horrors to come. He also provides us a way to shield ourselves from those horrors. As free-will is, the choice is ours. Those who call on the name of the Lord will be delivered from the horrors.

In Romans, God speaks to us through the writings of Paul to explain further, and again how we can avoid the terrible events preceding the coming of Christ. Joel says whoever calls on the name of the Lord, but Paul explains what that means and involves. It is a heart issue. The heart is where the person believes and from the heart the person speaks. We are all inclined to talk about what is most important to us. We have all known the grandparent that talks nonstop about their grandchild, or the person that gets a new job, or the sports fan that talks about their favorite team. Talking about a subject such as your children does not necessarily make them the most important in a person’s life, but it is a good guide. Someone that never talks about Jesus would be hard pressed to show that there is love in their heart for Him. I do not care one bit about horse racing, and you can know that because I never speak of it. I do, however, talk about Jesus every day.

Paul gives us this list so that we may evaluate ourselves. What or who is most important in our lives. Will you call on the name of Jesus as Joel proclaims that will be necessary to be delivered from damnation? Does Jesus hold a spot in your heart? Will you see wonders in the sky of the glorious return of our King and praise God, or will you be afraid from the non-belief that you have cherished? These verses are not for condemnation; they are for salvation. God has given us a promise of His return. He has provided instructions and a path to be delivered from the horrors to come and to have salvation through Jesus Christ. Whoever calls on His name will be saved. Will you call His name?
