Only Love

Only love, appears with the marks of hammered nails

upon hands whose very touch transfigured, whose human fingers

once pointed definitively towards the dust of the earth, writing forgiveness.

Only love, leaves the scars of love upon his heart,

scars expressing love, his heart beating for humanity,

a Sacred Heart, bleeding out loving mercy, towards the tyranny of flawed humanity.

Only love, with blooded tears, sweat covered flesh, torn,

beaten, forever etched upon the bark of that wounded tree

that he took willingly upon his shoulders, humanity’s sin, the worst of fallen humanity.

Only love, a lifeless corpus, lonely upon the savage tree of humanity’s vanity.

Only love, writhing in agony silenced by death

lain in solitude upon a cold marble altar, wrapped in linen. in cloth, in mystery.

Only love, stirs in the solitude of a resurrected miracle,

reaching out to defeated humanity,

whispering in amazed ears, that “love has won the day, only love is the way, only love!”
