Listening Ear, Disciples Tongue.

Isaiah 50:4

The Lord has given me

a disciple’s tongue.

So that I may know how to reply to the wearied

he provides me with speech.

Each morning he wakes me to hear,

to listen like a disciple.

The Lord has opened my ear.

Isaiah: I can only speak when I am truly listening

Today the garden is a beautiful spring vibrancy.

Rampant colours adorning each corner,

blushing flowers wearing their Sunday best,

chattering birds are serenading the sunshine.

The floating breeze brings about  

a gentle shivering of the green grass

where the daffodils are encroaching.

A greying cloud sweeps across the blue skies

as the sacred days of Easter are approaching.

Regal, the Christ who is nailed to the cross

in bloody crucifixion is slain.

Silent the ice cold tomb

in which his lifeless body is lain.

Mere days later

stirring beneath the earth

a rustling of the roots of life,

for a moment missing, absent until bursting

upon a crowded cowering upper room

resurrected flesh, rejuvenated bone

proclaims the victory!

Offering peace,

breaking the bonds of death, of drudgery,

restoring hope, the essence of life’s eternal beauty.

Written in response to the first reading at Mass today for the Wednesday in Holy Week. To appreciate the beauty of life in every moment, the cross and resurrection of Jesus come into focus. Listening in prayer, allows us to speak as a disciple of the beauty we experience.
