Do Not Be Afraid

“Do Not Be Afraid”

Waiting

in the early hours,

surrounded by sombre darkness,

breathing in steadily

the approaching dawn freshly appearing;

welcoming the security of the sacred,

bringing a hopeful awakening

anticipating the gladdening morning light

soon returning, accompanying life’s living.

“Do not be afraid”

is whispered in prayerful recollections,

piercing the scattering nocturnal clouds

giving way to this day’s delightful brightness

head bowed, words spoken, the soul has prayed.

Let nothing disturb, nothing alarm,

life passes quietly, yet ever so quickly,

fear not for you are loved unto eternity;

night passes into day, day gives back to night

seasons pass, drifting by, God changes not,

possessing God brings a sense of no lasting harm.

I wrote this today based upon the gospel for Mass today when Jesus says “Do Not Be Afraid” while also reflecting upon St Teresa of Avila’s prayer.
