Mysterious humming noise heard over UK city

From Dateline Zero – Reading the comments being posted toFacebook.com/HullDailyMail reveals a mix of wonder, puzzlement, worry, and even a bit of excitement as people try and discover what caused the humming sound over parts of Hull and Holderness in the early hours of this morning, (October 28).

According to This Is Hull & East Riding, “the Mail received several calls from readers from across the city who heard the noise at about 2am.” You can hear a recording of the noise from a resident posted up in a separate article at This Is Hull.

Is it an aircraft? A generator? It seems that every plausible suggestion is later being shot down.

Some have speculated the noise was caused by a low-flying military aircraft. However, Damien Elvin, the spokesman for the Ministry of Defence, said that he is not aware of any military aircraft having been in the area at that time.

He’s made inquiries with the MoD’s Low Flying Complaints and Enquiries Unit. “We have no confirmed activity in that area,” Elvin stated.

Another suggestion had been that the noise could have come from Humberside Police’s helicopter. Yet a police force spokeswoman issued a statement that the police helicopter was not in the area at that time. Specifically, according to This Is Hull, the statement is: “Between 1.15am and 5.12am the helicopter was in Scunthorpe.”
